Her
"Carly, please stop killing the door."
"But. I. Can't. Get. It. Open." I said, pulling on the door.
"Carly."
"Damn door." I growled, pulling harder.
"Carly."
"It. Won't. Op-"
"Carly!"
"What Bren?"
"It says push."
I paused and looked at the label, which clearly stated: Push.
"Oh..."
He laughed and brushed past me.
"...I fail." I sighed, pushing open the door.
"It's okay CC. I love you anyway." Brendon said, smiling at me with his toothy grin.
"Can we stop by Starbucks?" I asked, catching up to him.
"No."
"Aw But Bren." I whined.
"I offered to stop there on the way here and you said no."
"Well that was then."
"That was 5 minutes ago."
"Well I want Starbucks now."
"Good lord Carly. You're acting like you're 5."
"Maybe I am 5."
"No, C. You're 16. Unless you aren't CC."
"Identity crisis! Who am I?"
"Who are you? Who, who, who, who."
"I am your father."
"Oh god I hope not." He laughed.
"Brendon Urie go take me to Starbucks! I command you!"
"Yes Mast-"
"Oh wait!"
He rolled his eyes.
"What now?"
"Cold Stone!"
"Carly."
"What? Come on. Please?"
"No."
"Jeez you're acting like my brother."
"Ew. He scares me."
"Yeah me too. So stop acting like him!"
"Fine!"
"So that means-"
"No."
"Aw. You're no fun."
He rolled his eyes and laughed.
"Lets just go find Ryan."
"Where is he?"
"Beats me. He just said to meet him at the mall."
"Gee thanks for being so specific, Ry."
"I'm sure he'd love to tell you and your sarcasm that you're very welcome."
"Uh huh. Maybe we should call hi-"
He suddenly grabbed my hand and stopped me.
I blushed a bit and looked over at him shyly.
Okay, I admit it.
I like Brendon.
But how could you not?
He's adorable.
And he's also my best friend.
Which makes it even more awkward than it should be.
I met Bren in the 2nd grade.
I remember that day like it was yesterday...
Monday, September 12th, 1994
11: 47 AM
I took a seat on the far side of the table with my purple and black lunch box in hand.
Lunch.
Finally.
I thought my stomach was going to go boom.
I pulled open the Velcro opening and peered inside.
A PB&J sandwich and an apple.
Along with a juice pack and a bag of chips.
Awesome!
...Oh.
And that old candy wrapper from last Friday.
Heheh.
I took out my sandwich and juice pack.
After beating the straw to a pulp trying to get it out of the wrapper, I stuck it in the pack and that officially began my lunch.
Suddenly a tray slammed down next to me.
I jumped a bit and looked up to see a dark haired boy.
He sat next to me. But never made eye contact.
I tilted my head and looked at him.
No one had ever sat with me at lunch except this girl named Kelly.
But Kelly was out sick today.
He didn't speak. He didn't look over at me.
He just went to open his milk carton. It was like he didn't notice I was sitting there.
I shrugged and went back to sucking the juice pack dry.
After a few seconds he spoke up.
"It looks infected." He said, poking the slice of pizza that sat on the tray with a fork.
"It's a pizza. How can a pizza be infected?" I asked.
"I don't know," He shrugged. "But I think it is."
"But it's a pizza." I repeated.
"Yeah. An infected pizza." He said, finally looking at me.
"Whatever." I said, opening the plastic wrap around my sandwich.
He looked at my sandwich, then back down at his pizza, then back at my sandwich.
"Your sandwich doesn't look infected." He said.
I nodded and took a bite out of the side.
He licked his lips and looked back down at his tray.
I looked over at him.
He let out a sigh and poked the slice of pizza once more.
I bit my lip and looked back at my sandwich.
I tore it apart and shoved his shoulder lightly.
He looked back at me.
I placed the other half of the sandwich on his tray and smiled.
His eyes quickly lit up as he smiled back.
He picked up the sandwich and took a giant bite out of it.
"I'm Carly." I said.
"Brendon." He said, a piece of bread falling out of his mouth.
Now
Ever since that day, we've been best friends.
Occasionally I'd share my sandwich with him on what he called 'infected pizza day'.
And now here we are. 9 years later.
He's in a band.
And I...
Well. I want to be a photographer.
Two different paths.
But we could make it work.
Too bad we can't.
He doesn't like me like that...
You see, he likes this other girl.
He says he doesn't but Ryan told me he still does.
Her name's June Winters.
His first crush.
He met her back in 7th grade.
He told me he was over her about a year later.
But Ryan says otherwise.
But it's alright.
I can go through with it.
Anyway, back to the situation.
He quickly led me in the opposite direction.
"Brendon? What is it-"
"Twins." He said, dragging me along.
Oh great.
Grace and Greta Shay.
The two twins from hell.
And not only were they two of the schools 'finest' cheerleader/role model/whatever the hell else there is to throw in there, they have to be the biggest air heads the world has come to know.
Or at least this little part of the world.
Their egos are about as big as their boobs. And that's saying a lot.
Some call them role models.
Some call them gossip queens.
Others call them preps.
But I think those two fit nicely under the word Bitch in my dictionary..
And let me just say they...dislike me very much.
Brendon too.
And you know, Grace's boyfriend, as well as baseball, basketball and whatever other sport you could play here star, Gary, almost beat Brendon to a pulp last Tuesday.
You see, I insulted Grace, Gary came over and threatened me, Brendon walked over and stoop up for me and if it wasn't for Mr. Thomas, our English teacher, Brendon would no longer look as he does now.
And I find it funny that all their names start with G. And if you look two keys above G on your keyboard, there's 6. And you know...three G's. Three 6's...
Yeah...
Erm.
Anyway.
I turned my head to see the two strutting towards us.
'Please don't let them see us.' I pleaded to myself.
"Well, well look who we have here, Greta."
"My, my. If it isn't Brendon Urie and Carly Chance."
Brendon stopped at the sound of his name.
He bit his lip and looked down at me.
"They saw us..." I said looking down at the ground..
They strutted next to us and gave us that...look.
"I always thought they were good for each other." Grace said.
"Dork and dork. Perfect match." Greta sneered.
I blushed and glared at them.
Brendon rolled his eyes and dragged me into the music store.
"God I hate those two." I groaned.
"We all do." Brendon said.
"And now we have to convince everyone we're not together because they'll go around telling them otherwise."
"Yup."
"Fun." I said sarcastically.
Him
"Fun." Carly said sarcastically.
I nodded and scanned the store.
Ryan has to be here somewhere. Ah!
There.
I dragged her down an aisle toward a skinny figure standing by a rack of CD's.
"Ryan!" I called.
He turned his head.
"It's about time. I've only been waiting for 5 years." He said sarcastically.
I rolled my eyes.
"Hey C." He said.
"Hey Ry."
"Okay. What are we doing now?" I asked.
"...I dunno." Ryan said, setting down a CD.
"...But you told us to meet you here."
"Yes. I did in fact to that."
"Well then don't you have anything you're wanting to do?"
"Nope."
I rolled my eyes.
Suddenly Ryan's phone started to ring.
"What Spence?"
I let out a sigh and looked around.
I felt a light shove on my shoulder. I turned to see Carly staring back at me.
"Brendon?"
"Yeah?"
"You're still holding my hand."
I looked down and noticed that I still had hold of her hand.
I blushed and quickly let go, then shoving my hand in my pocket.
"Sorry..."
"It's alright." She smiled.
I smiled back.
"K be there in a few minutes." Ryan said into his phone.
"Something up?" Carly asked.
"Yeah band practice over at Spence's. Come along Bren." He said.
"But you said practice is tomorrow since the air conditioning in Spence's house-"
"It got canceled."
"Oh. Alright."
I followed Ryan as he walked toward the exit.
Carly came running after us.
"Hey wait for me. You're my ride home anyway." She said.
"Oh why can't you just walk?" I asked jokingly.
"I thought I was your fwend." She pouted.
"I'm sorry bestest buddy! I wuv you!" I said in a baby-ish tone, pulling her into a tight hug.
You know, I wasn't really kidding.
She may have thought I was but, I wasn't.
"Okay I'll meet you at Spence's." I said to Ryan.
He nodded and walked off into the parking lot.
"Ah man. Mom must not be home." Carly said, looking into the empty driveway.
"Well, you wanna come hang out at practice?" I asked.
"Are you sure that's okay?"
"Hell yeah! Come on. You're our best friend. Duh it's okay."
"Yeah but still."
"Just come on."
"Okay fine." She laughed.
Her
"Hey Spence."
"CC!" Spencer cheered, randomly hugging me.
"Group hug!" Brendon announced, latching onto me.
Ryan did the same. Brent let out a sigh and did it as well.
"Okay guys. You're suffocating me." I said.
"Whoopsy." Spencer said, letting go. Ryan laughed and let go, then walked into the kitchen.
Brent sat back down on the couch and took a sip from his coke.
"Brendon let her go." Spencer said.
"Never!" Brendon said, hugging me tighter.
I laughed and tried to squirm away from his grasp.
Didn't work.
"Ryan help me!"
"Busy!"
"Brent?!"
"You're on your own."
"Damn. Spencer? Won't you help your dear old friend?" I asked.
"Sure Carly dearest." He said, reaching for my arm.
Brendon let out a growl as Spencer moved closer.
Spencer ignored him and grabbed my hand.
Brendon quickly pulled me out of Spence's grasp and pretended to bite him.
"Ryan! Brendon tried to bite me!" Spencer called into the kitchen.
"For the last time Spence. I'm not your mom."
"Yes you are, mommy."
"See I told you Ryan's a girl." I said to Brendon. He stuck his tongue out.
"No I'm not!"
"Are too."
"Are not!"
"Someone's PMSing!"
Ryan walked back in. He shot me a glare and poked my side.
I flinched and if it wasn't for Brendon still having a tight hold on me I would've poked him back.
"Brendon let go." I said.
"Why?"
"'Cause."
"Why?"
"'Cause."
"Why?"
"'Cause."
"That's not a good reason."
"I don't need a good reason."
"Do too."
"Brendon."
"That's me!"
"Ryan make him let me go." I whined.
"Why does everyone ask me? Good god I'm not your mother. Ask Brent."
"No. Don't ask Brent." Brent said.
"Okay! Carly wants to know if Brent will make Brendon let her go." I said.
"No Brent won't."
"Damn you're no help. Jeez don't you people love Carly anymore?"
"Brendon does!" Brendon yelled.
"Then let Carly go."
"But Brendon doesn't wanna."
"Okay all of you. Stop talking in third person. And Brendon, let Carly go so we can practice." Ryan said, rolling his eyes.
"Fine."
Brendon let me go and smiled that stupid, goofy smile.
"Thank you mommy!" I said, hugging Ryan.
"Mmhmm. Now come on guys. Lets focus."
After a few hours of watching them practice, we decided to chill out and watch a movie.
"What do you guys want to watch?" Spencer asked.
"Harry Potter!"
"Which one?"
"Second."
"Alright."
"Wait. Don't we get a say in this?" Brendon asked.
"No. Carly spoke up first."
"So?"
"So in other words, Carly wins." I smiled.
Brendon stuck his tongue out at me.
I stuck mine out as well.
"Could you two be any more immature?" Brent asked.
"Yes!" I said, taking a seat on the couch.
Brendon nodded in agreement and sat down on me.
I let out a wince and shoved him off.
He landed on the floor.
"Haha." I laughed.
He glared and grabbed my leg, pulling me down there with him.
"Haha." He mocked, smirking.
I glared and lunged on top of him.
We ended up ramming into the side of the couch as we wrestled around.
"Ow." Brendon laughed.
"There's a couch there, Bden."
"Yeah thanks for warning me."
"No problem."
I sat up and leaned on the couch, laughing a bit.
"Are you two done?" Ryan asked.
"Yes." Brendon said."
"Good. Start it up, Spence."
"Yes mommy."
"Goddamn it stop calling me that!" Ryan snapped.
Brendon let out a snort as he crawled over to me.
"Behave, Brendon." I said as the movie began.
"Okay." He pouted.
Him
Movie's finally over.
"I'm tired." Brent yawned.
"I need to get home."
"I'm Spencer!"
"I'm Brendon!"
"I'm...Ryan?"
"Brent's right here."
"I'm Paul."
"No, you're Carly." I said, poking her.
"Nu uh. I'm Paul."
"Spencer, why do you have some random person named Paul in your house?" I asked.
"I dunno. Hey Paul. Go away."
"No."
"Damn it Paul!"
Ryan rolled his eyes and threw a pillow at Spencer.
"Ow! She's the one who renamed herself. Not me."
"Come on Carly. Lets get you home before your brother bites my head off."
"He's not that scary, Bren."
"Says you. Now come on." I said, pulling Carly up off the floor.
"Okay. See you guys later." She said, following me out the door.
"Bye Brendon. Bye Carly!"
"So Carly, " I said as I drove down the road. "You're a girl..."
"...Why yes I am. Good job Brendon!"
I rolled my eyes and chuckled.
"I...need some girl advice." I said, biting my lip.
She was silent for a moment but quickly nodded.
"Okay. What do you need help with?"
"Well...obviously there's this girl. That I...like."
She nodded slowly and looked into her lap.
"And I...I may even love her..." I said quietly.
"It's June. Isn't it?" She asked.
"What?" No. Of course not. I told you I was over her."
"Bren I know you-"
"I don't like her anymore. That was what...4 years ago."
"So you don't like her...?"
"No."
"Oh. Well then who is it?"
Okay Bden. It's time.
You've got to do this.
No chickening out.
"Her...her name is...Carl-..."
Come on...say it.
Tell her.
Come on.
"Carl? Her name is Carl?" She asked, raising her eyebrow.
"It's Carla. Yeah."
"Oh...I didn't know you knew a Carla."
"Well uh. You...you wouldn't know. You've never met her." I said quickly.
"How come?" She asked.
She's making this even harder.
"Well. She's...she's my cousin's...friend."
"Oh."
"Yeah. And yeah we're...we're good friends. We talk. On the phone. And sometimes in person."
"Mmhmm...I'd imagine so."
Wow I sound like an idiot.
"And I...want to tell her how I feel. But I don't know if I should."
"Go for it."
"Really?"
"Yeah. Brendon if you like her. So much as love her, you need to tell her. 'Cause if you don't, you'll regret it for your whole life. And I'm sure she feels the same way about you."
"You think so?"
"Well yeah. You're an amazing guy. She's be stupid not to love you." She said, crossing her arms over her chest.
I blushed and smiled a little..
We came up to her house.
I stopped the car and looked over at her.
"Then I'm going to go home and call her and tell her...that I love her."
"Okay. I hope things work out for you two." She smiled.
"Thanks CC."
"No problem Bden."
She climbed out of the car and walked over toward the house after giving me one last wave.
I pulled out and started in the direction that led out of the subdivision but stopped by a curb near an empty house.
I climbed out of the car and ran towards Carly's house. I pulled out my phone and dialed her number.
"Okay Bden. Lets do this." I said to myself.
Her
I slumped down on my bed and let out a sigh.
Okay so he doesn't like Winters.
He still likes someone else.
But oh well.
That's life for you.
I closed my eyes and was close to drifting to sleep when the ringing of my phone startled me.
I sat up and picked it up.
"Hello?"
"Open your window."
"What? Who is this?"
To late.
Whoever they were, they hung up.
I thought for a moment.
What if it's some stalker serial killer?
Suddenly a rock hit my window.
My heart sped up as I cautiously made my way over to the window.
I slowly pulled up the blinds to see Brendon standing there.
I narrowed my eyes and pulled open the window.
"What the hell are you doing here? I thought you were going to home and-"
He cut me off by pressing his lips firmly on mine.
My stomach fluttered as I started to kiss back.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and snaked his around my waist.
'Thus resulting in me falling out the window and on top of him.
We laughed as we sat back up.
He smiled at me with that same toothy grin I've come to know and love.
"But what about Carla?" I asked.
"There is no Carla." He laughed.
"There isn't?"
"Nope."
"So you made her up?"
"Yep."
"Why?"
"'Cause I guess at that time I was too chicken to tell you that...I love you."
My heart skipped a beat as he said those final three words.
"Love is a big word, Bren." I said, digging my finger into the dirt.
"I know...and that's why I'm using it." He smiled shyly.
He crawled over and sat down, pulling me into his lap.
"But do you love me?" He asked.
"Ever since the day you told me you had infected pizza." I smiled.
"Damn that's a long time." He laughed.
I blushed and laughed a bit as well.
He smiled and softly kissed me.
"Carly? What the hell are you doing?"
I pulled back quickly.
"Oh. Dave. Hi!" I said, looking up to see my older brother, Dave, staring down at us.
"What the hell is he doing here?" He yelled, pointing at Brendon.
"David shut up before Mrs. Manson the police on us again." I hissed.
Our neighbor.
Don't ask...
"But the hell? What are you doing?"
"Uhm...sitting?"
He rolled his eyes.
I quickly got up.
Brendon did too.
"Dude it's okay. Chill." Brendon said.
"You." David said, glaring at him. "Get out."
"But I was just-"
"Out!"
"Brendon no. Stay. David. Shut the hell up. Stop being an ass and go mind your own business."
"But Carly-"
"Now."
He clenched his fists and pointed a finger at Brendon.
"If you hurt her in any way, I'll come over to your house and rip your head right off of your body. You hear me?" He threatened.
Brendon nodded quickly and stood behind me.
David stormed out of my room.
Brendon let out a sigh of relief.
"He scares the shit out of me." He laughed.
"That's what a brother's supposed to do to a guy his sister likes I guess." I shrugged.
"Fun. But I'll manage." He smiled, kissing my cheek.
He looked down over at the clock in my room.
"Shit I gotta get home. I'll call you tomorrow. K?"
"Okay. Bye Bren."
"Bye Carly."
I was about to climb back through the window when he grabbed my arm.
"I love you Carly." He smiled.
"...You really mean it?"
"Of course. You are my only one."
You are my only...
...My only one.
This oneshot was complete randomness.
