You followed quickly after Akira, who shuffled through hallways to a corridor that resembled the hall of rooms that you now lived in.
"Where are we?" you asked her quietly. She grunted in response, basically ignoring you. She trotted to the door all the way in the back, the very last door. She gave a single, rapid knock to the door. When there was no answer, she knocked again, louder this time. Again, there was no reply.
"Master Logan?" Akira called nervously. "He must be in his office," Akira said. With little acknowledgement to you, she rushed off again. You had to jog to keep up with her, and you had to remind yourself that she was in such a hurry for you, for your behalf. Akira left the hallway, turning sharply to the left and down a set of stairs. It wasnt long till you were somewhere you recognized, the top of the stairs to the Great Hall.
"Watch now," Akira murmured to you finally. She took the right hallway from the top of the stairs this time, a path youd never been down. You ran into new, mysterious doors that looked identical and yet somehow unique at the same time. Akira was practically running now, and she surprised you by skidding to a stop in front of a large, gray door. She swung the door open without second thought. She gripped your wrist then and pulled you in, shooting a warning glance back at you that immediately told you not to speak. The room you entered looked exactly like a lobby. There were several chairs made of a strong, sturdy looking oak. They were furbished with crimson red cloth, which looked silky and comfortable. In the middle of the section with chairs was a coffee table, the same wood with a glass top, which was covered with homely messy magazines. In the center was a freshly pruned bonsai tree. Also, there were two TVs set up in either corner above the seating area. They were off. Akira tugged at your wrist again, gently this time, and approached a desk that was set up by another door. A girl was manning the desk, a pretty girl with long dark hair held back by a white headband, with soft blue eyes that seemed to tell a painful story, with soft features and a small smile that never left her face, even as she looked up to meet Akiras urgency.
"Hello, Star," Akira said simply, straining to hold back her emotions.
"Afternoon, Akira. Oh," she looked down at something on her desk, tapped its screen with her fingernail, and her smile stretched a little as she looked up. "My mistake, good evening," she corrected herself. It was already evening? No wonder Akira was in such a big hurry.
"Hoshi, this is Kazumi," Akira gestured towards you but didnt look back. Hoshi nodded at you in greeting. "Shes Master Aidens newest gift and we need to address Master Logan. Is he in?" she continued. Hoshi looked back at the door, which you could now see held a gold plate carved with the words Logan Black. When she turned back around, she was biting her lip, the smile gone.
"Yes, he is..." she said slowly. Akira sighed.
"But?" she asked. Hoshi smiled apologetically.
"You can go in, Akira, but Master Logan told me expressly not to let her," she gestured at you with her head, "in his office." Akira looked back at you with a raised eyebrow, and all you could do was shrug. Akira sighed again, more heavily this time.
"Are you sure?" she asked. Hoshi nodded with confidence. You placed your hand on Akiras shoulder.
"Go in and talk to him. I can wait out here," you said. Akira looked back at you and you were surprised to see the worry, the franticness in her eyes. It almost drove her to tears.
"I will. I wont I wont let anything happen to you," Akira said so quietly it was almost a whisper. You were close to shocked when she told you this. You had only known her for a few hours, not even a full day, and she was determined to the point of crying to make sure you were safe. You wondered if she was seeing her daughter, Sumi, in you, and trying to make up for her suffering by preventing you from having to endure it as well. Akira patted the hand that was on her shoulder, and you removed it.
"Good luck," whispered Hoshi, and Akira thanked her silently. Then she knocked on the gold plated door ahead of her.
"Come in," Logans misty voice floated out from the cracks around the door and you found yourself wishing you could go in with Akira. Instead, you turned and took a seat on one of the chairs outside as Akira walked into Logans office. The seats were indeed as comfortable as they looked, though they werent much comfort as you waited for Akira to come out. It seemed like forever before there was any sign there was even life behind that door.
"Oh, please, Master Logan, you have to stop him!" it was Akira, pleading for you. There was a quiet time, where you presumed Logan was responding in his calm, soothing voice. This was ended by Akiras loud sobbing. She tried everything to get you off the hook- crying, begging, bribery, even guilt, but nothing was working. Finally, there was an angry shout, where Akira cried, "Shes waiting right outside! Go out there and tell her to her face what you are condemning her to!" And then the door flew open, hitting the wall and bouncing back, creaking as it came to a pained stop. Akira came bursting out of the room, flying angrily to the gray door to the lobby and leaving. There was a heavy sigh from inside Logans office, followed by, "Kazumi, would you come in here please?" You felt your body shaking as you pushed yourself up from the chair and walked slowly to Logans office. You grasped the edge of the door and pulled it open cautiously, peeking your head in. Logan chuckled very softly. You pulled back, took a deep breath, and stepped into the room, closing the door behind you. You met Logans gaze, and he held it fast.
"Sit down," he said, pointing at the chair opposite him. You made a point of slumping over to the chair, dragging your feet, and plopping down with a loud sigh. Logan was smiling, his eyes shining. So he had a good sense of humor.
"Im sorry, Kazumi I dont know how you found out about my brothers antics with his new servants, but-"
"I heard all about Sumi," you interrupted.
"Ah," Logan responded, obviously not surprised, but setback nonetheless. You started tapping your foot absent-mindedly. "Look," Logan said after awhile, "Sumi was nothing less of a special case. Big Brother never took another girl like that, and she is treated very nicely."
"Bull. Ive seen her. She was wrapped in chains. Logan, she had a COLLAR on," you exclaimed. Logan rubbed the back of his neck nervously.
"I can see how that would seem suspicious, but I promise you, Sumi is not treated badly," he said, and that ended the discussion. You were silent then, not sure what to say. Logan did not seem perturbed by the absence of the title Master when you spoke to him.
"So so is that whats going to happen to me? Im going to be chained up and locked away to be used on someones whim?" you asked quietly. Logan frowned.
"I am going to try my damnedest to make sure that does not happen," he answered.
"And if it does?" Logan sighed, his gaze leaving yours and hitting the floor. You stood up, pushing the chair back, and you walked out in silence. Before you closed the door all the way, you saw Logans head had dropped to his hands. Then it clicked, and you felt tears building up in your eyes.
"No luck?" Hoshi asked. You could only shake your head in dismay. "Im sorry," she whispered.
"Me too," you said quietly. You left the lobby sadly, sure you were going to be doomed to a very unfortunate fate. After just a few minutes of being able to sulk, a familiar, high pitched voice filled the air, a singsong calling of, "Oh, Kazuuuuuuumiiiii!" It was Yuki, running towards you with a bag in her hand. It was a gift bag, you saw as she drew closer, blue and stuffed to the point of overflowing with tissue paper. You stopped walking as she came to you, stopping on a dime inches from your face.
"Hi."
"Hi, Yuki."
"I got you something!"
"You did? From where? Why?"
"Oh, thats not important. Just open it!" she thrust the bag into your arms. You took it, smiling at Yuki in appreciation.
"Thanks, but I think Ill open it when I get back to my room," you said. You knew where you were going now, and all you wanted to do was go to sleep.
"Aaw, but I wanna see you open it!" Yuki exclaimed. You loved her enthusiasm and childlike innocence.
"How about you come with me then?" you decided. Yuki squealed and jumped into the air.
"Thatd be swell!"
"Swell?" you mouthed as you turned and kept walking back to your Hall of Rooms. You picked your key out of your pocket, unlocking your door as you got to it. You opened the door and walked in to your room for the second time. You prayed come tomorrow at sundown, you would still be coming back to it.

"Well?" Yuki questioned, shaking the hand that held your gift.
"Okay, okay," you said, putting your hands up in protection. You sat down on your bed, and Yuki plopped down beside you so fast you jumped an inch into the air, even though you werent on a spring mattress.
"Open it!" Yuki exclaimed as you began to remove tissue paper.
"I am, I am," you said. A few more pieces in and you decided forget the tissue paper, and dug your hand into the bag in search of something solid. Eventually it hit your hand and you latched onto it, pulling it out along with half of the tissue paper. It was a small box, one that usually held jewelry. You stared at it for a few seconds, confused, until your arm started to shake involuntarily and you noticed Yuki was tugging on it.
"Come ON!" she exclaimed. You nodded, silent, then cracked the box open and peered into it.
"Oh my gosh..."
