"Number Thirteen."
"Meet us as soon as we get off the bus. I'll - we'll - tell you guys then." Dial tone. Zane sighed and snapped his black RAZR shut. He stuffed it into his pocket and lifted his hands only to stare at them. 'I joined because...Because we're all the same. We're different.'
"We're here!" Ashlyn exclaimed for the third time. Maybe she did it to get attention...Who knows? This time, barely anybody believed her and looked out the window in hope.
"She's right this time," Mrs. Walker said. Everyone got out of their seats. I saw everyone BUT Adrienne, Ian, Martin, Derek, Alex, AND Zane. Wait a minute...THERE they are.
"Headcount!" Mrs. Walker cried, "Line up in homeroom! Walker here!" And so the listing of spots where homerooms should be continued. I got in line with Sophie, Sky, and Zane. Soon, teachers were checking people and things off. I turned around to face Zane.
"You have the camera ready, right?" Zane nodded. "Okay." The students headed into the museum.
"Hello! My name is Mr. Thomas and I'm your tour guide for today. The news lab may wander, but please stay in sight!"
And soon I did. Zane and I left Sophie, Sky, Rick, and the others behind.
"Hello Garden Grove High School, this is Karen Hamasaki speaking and I'm at the Ancient History Museum with the rest of the juniors. We are going to 'wander' around with our friends to see if anything fasinating comes along in the tour," I said.
"And...Cut," Zane said.
"Remember to shorten the trip, just show the group walking and what we see and stop shortening if there's anything related to what the school is learning - that's what the principal said," I recalled. Zane nodded.
"Aye, aye, captain," he muttered as we continued with the tour.
Zane had taped most of the trip and soon we came across something very interesting.
"This is Ayame Yuudai's Final Scroll, from fudal Japan - the period of ninjas, warriors, samurais, and rumored to have demons," Mr. Thomas said. "Legend has it that Ayame used her last scroll to ward those demons off, it was also rumored that these demons might come back." I silently snorted and rolled my eyes out of view. Demons? That's absurd!
But I didn't hear Zane's thoughts: "You don't know how true that is."
"Hey Karen," Sky spoke up. "This Ayame person looks like you."
I looked over his shoulder to see a scroll with an image. That image looked like me...Only a bit more... Fudal Japan.
"T-that's not me," I said. Sky shrugged. But most of the entire student body looked back and forth.
Soon after a couple of hours, the tour was over. Later, the school dropped by the food court and ordered lunch. I sat down with Rick, Sophie, and Sky. I looked around.
"Where's Zane?" I asked.
Sky sighed and pointed at a table in the farthest corner. Sitting there was Zane, Alex, Derek, Ian, and Adrienne. Martin joined. "My twin brother is one of those people that get off tardies in most classes."
"Think that he's part of their crew?" Rick asked.
Martin had the lightest shade of brown for his hair and he had forest green eyes. He had on a black button up shirt, faded jeans, and black and green skater shoes.
Adrienne had platinum blonde hair shoulder length. Her eyes were an electric blue. She wore a light blue shirt, a denim mini skirt, sunglasses, and skater shoes that were blue and yellow.
Ian had dark black hair and blue eyes. He wore a black leather jacket, black muscle shirt, black jeans, and black skater shoes.
"Zane is an odd one," Sophie commented.
What's up with Zane? [Karen: I don't know...] [Karin: Me niether...] Aren't you writing this? [Karin: Yup, and it's all planned out!] -.-"
Zane... I'm supporting the Zane x Karen coupling! [Karen: Forgetting that I heard that...Although he's hot cute.] [Karin: Isn't it a tad early?] Nope!
"Hey Zane!" I cried as I ran up to the said person. He turned around and smiled. "Haven't seen you around lately."
"Sorry," he apologized. "I was busy." I shook my head, not realizing Zane walked away. What's really up with him? "...you're barely around these days..." I wish I knew.
I just wish my routine could be altered a bit...So then I could spend some more time with Zane my friends.
'If only I could've told her...But we'll tell her...Soon...Real soon...Just in time,' Zane thought as he opened his locker door.
"Duh, we have 'gifts'," Alex answered.
"Well, yeah... We can see them and fight them... No matter how discusting they look," Adrienne shivered remembering her last battle. That was a nightmare.
"We all have different reasons why we joined, to hang out with people that have these gifts, to get rid of them, and many more... And we're given a mission, Resident Twilight was given a mission. Our mission is about the Chosen One - cheesy is that? Number One said that they will be revealed, 'Just look for the open scroll,' he said," Martin informed.
Ian sighed and closed his BIG book, "Overall, we're looking for a scroll that's unrolled and in a display case that has a special aura around it."
Zane sighed, they did do that and it seemed she was selected. He slammed his locker door shut and walked to his next class.
"Ah, Zane, decided to join us I see..." Professor Sanders, the chemistry teacher, said.
"Yes, sir, skate park's closed anyways," Zane joked as he walked down the aisle. I waved slightly at him. But he turned around, sitting between Alex and Derek with Martin, Adrienne, and Ian behind them. I sighed, 'Does he notice me?'
"Miss Hamasaki, would you like to solve the problem?" Professor Sanders asked. We heard something vibrate on his desk. A sliver Motorola SLVR vibrated. He walked over to his desk and his eyes scanned the text message. They widened in the end. He turned it off and faced the class again. "Sorry about that. Now Karen, what about that problem?" I sighed before walking toward the board.
"What got Prof Sanders startled?" Sophie questioned as we walked out of class. I shrugged. "Oh well...School's over for now and it's almost summer break, we should enjoy it while it lasts." I nodded. "Karen, you're being awfully quiet. What's wrong?"
I sighed before answering. "I feel as if Zane's ignoring me." I walked ahead, toward my locker. I took and shoved things from and into my backpack. "I'll see you later, right?"
Zane stared at his superiors - the whole organization - before staring at the white floor.
"Ayame...is Karen... Karen is Ayame..."
"Her first battle will begin soon. Resident Twilight will watch her." The second team nodded and disappeared with Zane.
Resident Twilight - or the second team - was made up of Martin, Alex, Adrienne, Ian, Zane, and Derek. They hid behind a bush and saw a demon appear from out of the shadows. It was like a huge worm with rows of sharp yellow rotten teeth. It had no visible eyes and it was still not noticible by Karen...As in me.
Seeing the huge shadow, I turned around, only to scream.
KAREN'S GOING TO DIE!!! Is she? [Karin: Wait and see...or read... But you should check out my other story if you haven't!]
Your stories are so good!
It plunged forward, I ran. Only to fall as I tripped over my shoe. Embarrassing, right? I quickly got up and ran. 'I wish I could defend myself right now...Any weapon would do!'
I felt something materialize in my hand. It was metallic, it was cold. I lifted my hand to see a gun. A silver gun, a silver gun with bullets.
In a rush, I flipped the gun around my finger and lifted it to eye level. I pulled back the trigger of the complex gun and shot multiple times. Although it was my first time handling a gun, it felt as if I've fought these creatures millions of times before.
Blood gushed out. I shivered but recovered and with both hands, I shot the creature again. More blood poured out and this time I realized that this gun wasn't going to have a lot of effect on a creature this huge. He's like - what - 10 feet. 'I want another weapon!' The gun disappeared within light and replacing it was another object. A sheathed katana. (Katana - Japanese for sword) I pulled away the black sheath as the silver blade glimmered in the sun the more it was revealed. I gripped the black hilt and leapt into action.
I pulled the katana back and swung it over my head. I landed on the concrete - not so nicely - and I looked over my shoulder. There were two parts of the creatures and gallons of blood.
I winced as I stood up, I had landed on my side and there was a buise on my upper arm.
I heard clapping and turned around to see Alex, Derek, Zane, Adrienne, Martin, and Ian.
"Alright, Karen!" Alex cheered. "Slay that BIA-demon, why don't you?"
I stared at each one of them and opened my mouth. But the only thing that came out was,
"What's going on?"
Did you see that? I got some (mild) gore in! Nothing like ripping insides out yet, but it was bloody.
