"Okay, so this is going to be your room." I pointed my finger to the doorway that used to be my office, but I never used it as an office so it's pointless. It was dusty and filled with boxes and a desk.
"Ummm, it's...nice?" She gave me an unenthusiastic thumbs up.
"Oh shut up, you whineass, we're gonna go grab some paint, any color you want, and some furniture at the store in a couple minutes." She gave me 'the grin'.
"I can paint it any color I want?"
"Yes, that's what any color you wanted meant." I grabbed her bags and tossed them in the room. "C'mon, lets go." I went to grab my keys off of the table where I tossed them while she went to the bathroom, when someone knocked on the door. I went to open it. It was Will. I smiled at him, he looked so adorable in his gray-wash jeans. He looked around the room at my empty apartment.
"Aww babe, no luck? I'm sorry, maybe you'll find a good enough girl tomorrow." At that exact moment Gabriella walked out of the bathroom, buttoning her pants as she went.
"Oh hi." We all stood looking at each other for a minute. Will was looking at her as if she was the Anti-Christ. Then I went over and grabbed her arm, pulling her back over to us.
"Will, this is Gabriella," his eyes widening at the name. "And Gabriella, this is Will." She put her hand out for him to shake, and he did, however relunctantly. "I adopted her today." He looked at me as if I was kidding. "Gabriella, you might recognize Will as the lead singer of The Academy Is." Her eyes widened a fraction.
"Oh. Well, it's nice to meet you." We fell into another silence. Gabriella decided to break it. "We were just going to go buy some paint for my new room, would you like to go with us?" Will almost cracked a smile. Almost.
"Sure." We all walked out the door and headed toward my Celica. I can see we're going to have a dilemma. Will always rides up front. And Gabriella as my new daughter probably assumed she was going to sit there too. But maybe i'm wrong, because as soon as we got over there she hopped into the back.
We drove off in silence, in search of the first paint store we could see. Lowe's won. [They're improving home improvement don't ya know.]
We skipped off past the wood into the back where the paint and those sorts of things are located. Gabriella picked out a nice, deep but bright green. Then at the furniture store we grabbed a black dresser and a box frame with a mattress. She decided that was enough for now.
Will and Gabriella had been cordial the while day so I figured I'd let them get a breather from each other.
"Gabriella, here's 50 dollars, go buy something you've always wanted." She looked at me curiously.
REST IN RESULTS ---->
"If you wanted to be alone Gabe, all you had to do is ask," she smirked at me. "But thanks for the money." She grabbed it and walked off. Sigh. She's tricky.
Will just looked at me. I stared back. I sighed.
"C'mere." I pulled him into a hug and he nuzzled into my neck. "Everything is gonna be alright."
