I heard a pin drop & a nervous heartbeat

I woke up on a sunny Saturday morning beside Marie and sat up quietly and stretched.

I slipped out of bed and got myself dressed and put my shoes on and walked out of the room.

I walked to Joe's bedroom. The door was cracked, so I pushed it open quietly and stood in the doorway. He was peacefully sleeping.

For some reason, I had the strangest urge to crawl into the bed next to him.

I racked my brain desperatley before I glanced over at the table beside his bed and saw the light on his cellphone cut on.

I walked over to it curiously and noticed that it was an incomming call from Pete. Joe had left the phone on silent.

I picked the phone up and answered it.

"Hey?" I whispered as I walked out of the room, through the house, and stepped onto the front porch.

"Jade? Where's Joe?" He asked curiously.

"He's sleeping." I replied. "But I needed some advice."

"Sure." He said. "What about?"

"Well...umm...Joe." I replied, biting my bottom lip gently.

"What about him?" Pete asked, although clearly catching on.

"I dunno. I have never been in love. At least nothing compared to this." I replied quietly.

"Jade's in looooooooove!" Pete shouted and I heard Andy laughing in the background and saying 'I knew it!'.

"What? Andy is there?" I asked quickly.

"Oh, yeah. Sorry." Pete coughed and Andy suddenly stopped laughing. "Sorry."

I sighed. "It's okay." I paused for a moment and then sighed again. "What should I do?"

Pete laughed silently. "I can't believe it isn't obvious." He said.

"What isn't obvious?" I asked curiously.

Andy took the phone from Pete's hand, because I heard him whisper something to Pete. "It's obvious that he likes you too, Jade."

"Hold on a second..." I stood up and peeked in the window to see Joe walking towards the door. "He's coming!"

Joe opened the door and looked at me curiously.

"Hi..." He said to me.

"Umm...phone Joe!" I handed him the phone and then ran back inside towards the guest bedroom.

"Oh Jade there you are." Joe's mom was waking Marie and she turned to look at me as I entered the room. "Your mom just called. She said she left your aunt's about 3 hours ago and she will be here soon."

Marie jumped out of bed and squealed, yelling "Mommy's coming home! Mommy's coming home!"

I smiled and hugged my sister as she still jumped with joy.

I went back outside where Joe was still talking on his cellphone.

"Jade?" He said as he turned to look at me.

"My mom is coming home!" I said excitedly.

He half-forced a smile and then told Pete what I had just said.

He hung the phone up and put it in his pocket and then looked back at me and sighed.

"What's the matter?" I asked.

"Nothing. I'm glad she's coming back." He replied, forcing another half-smile as he turned and walked back inside.
