Recap: I just have to get into Nick's car and make it to that book store. What's the worst that can happen?
I was about to push the elevator button until someone suddenly grabbed my shoulder.
****
I quickly turned to see Jack standing there. I let out a big breath of air.
"Reila? I wasn't sure if it was you. It's pretty late" Jack said, letting go of my shoulder.
"Uh. Yeah. I have to go... to a store" I explained. "Why are you out in the hall... so late?"
"Oh, Haha, yeah I just got home. I should get to bed. I'm really tired"
"Yeah. I'll see you around" I waved with a smile.
He turned to his door which was to the left of mine as I pushed the elevator button. I hopped inside and watched the doors close.
Alright, I just need to get outside to Nick's car. If I see Jannis then I'll run back inside and tell the security guard.
The elevator doors opened and I slowly stepped out, looking around. The lobby was silent. I looked over at the main desk to see the guard boredly sitting there. I walked past him and looked out the main doors. It was pitched black outside, but there wasn't a star in the sky. I opened the doors as a blast of cold air hit me. I shivered as I looked around for Nick's car. I spotted it, but looked around before I started jogging towards it. There was no sign of her. I hit the unlock button and got into the drivers side.
Well that wasn't hard! Hum.. where is this book store guy
I looked down at the paper and read the directions Kenny gave me.
He told me I didn't to hear this for myself.. I just wonder what it is
****
Getting there didn't take too long, but every time I had to stop at a stop sign I felt fear crawling at me.
She almost pulled me out of the car. If she sees me she could probably try again...
Finally I hopped out of the car and looked over at the little store. 'Henry's Bookstore' It was painted above.
"Crap" I muttered as I looked at the 'closed' sign on the door.
I walked up to the glass and peered inside. There was a light on way at the back. I knocked on the glass and looked inside again.
"Hello, is anyone there?" I asked loudly and knocked on the door again.
I rubbed my hands together as I looked around. It was dark and freezing.
Maybe this wasn't such a good idea
I was about to head for the car, until I saw something move inside. The dark figure slowly walked towards the glass door until I could see his face. He seemed pretty old. Old enough to be my grandpa. He opened the door a crack.
"Who are you?" He asked with a glare.
"My name is Reila, Kenny told me about you" I told him.
He looked at me for a few seconds and then slowly nodded, opening the door. I stepped inside and followed him. He lead me to the back which seemed pretty sketchy. I looked around at all the books. They seemed pretty old as well. I slowly followed the old guy into his office and scanned the room. There was weird symbols on one wall. He had a lot of books, some on his desk. He sat down behind it and looked up at me.
"Sit down" He told me.
Slowly I sat in the chair in front of his desk. I looked down on his desk to see a big black book. The words 'Magic' printed on it.
Magic? Oh my god... did Kenny send me to some looney bin?
"So.. your Henry?" I asked him slowly and he nodded.
"You've come in contact with them, right?" He asked in a raspy voice.
"Them? Whose... them?" I asked, confused.
He looked at me again weirdly before answering.
"Has Kenny told you anything?" He asked me and I shook my head.
He sighed and I watched him opened a drawer in his desk. He pulled out a small book, opened it, and placed it in front of me. I looked down to see a picture of a man. His face was all weird like Jannis's was. I looked down at the writing under the picture. 'Vampire' was written.
A vampire? There's no such thing..
"What is this? Some story book?" I asked and he glared at me again.
"Story book? This is no story book, child. These demons are out there"
I scoffed and pushed the book away.
"Vampires? There are none. I thought Kenny said you were going to tell me something useful, not tell me crazy lies" I angrily said, getting up.
"Haven't you seen them?" He asked me, getting up too.
I turned back around and crossed my arms, "Well... I saw something like that... but Jannis isn't a vampire. She just has rabies or something"
"Jannis? Her face was like this?" He asked, holding up the book so I could see again.
Slowly I nodded and his eyes widened.
"You have to kill her! Before she makes another"
I watched as he quickly turned around and opened a cabinet. I tried to peer over his shoulder to see what he was getting, hoping he wasn't getting a gun or something. He turned back around and handed me a bag.
"What is this?" I asked putting the bag on his desk and taking things out.
"You have to use this. To kill her" He told me as I pulled out a small piece of wood that had a pointy end.
"Kill Jannis? Are you insane?" I asked him as I pulled out some holy water and garlic.
"If you let her walk the night she'll make more and they will take over the town. I've already told Kenny about this and..." He stopped talking and stared at my hand weirdly. "What's that?" he asked, pointing at my hand.
"A tattoo.." I told him as he kept staring.
"I've seen that before..." He mumbled to himself, turning away from me and going threw this cabinet again.
Vampires? They're not real... right? Well.. Jannis was biting that guy when I first saw her.. but that could have been rabies! ...Right?
Looking over at Henry I didn't know what to think.
Should I really trust this old guy?
I looked back down at all the things I took out of the bag he gave me. Garlic, holy water, and a few pointy wooden objects.
Yeah... this is crazy..
"You know what... forget I even came here.. I'm... I'm going to go" I told him, slowly backing away from him.
"Here it is!" He yelled with a smile, pulling out a book and turned towards me again. "Your tattoo, right here it says-" Before he could finish his sentence, the crashing noise from behind us made us both jump.
I looked over to the front to see the windows were smashed in and I watched as people slowly walked in. Henry quickly hid behind his desk. I ran over and hid behind his desk too.
"Who are those people?! Are you being robbed?" I whispered at him in fear.
"I don't think they're people" He whispered me back, which confused me more then scared me.
Not.. people
We stayed quiet, listening to them walk around the store. I heard a big crash, which almost made me scream.
"Henry, we know your in here" A male voice called.
He sounded creepy. I looked over at Henry who looked more afraid then I was. There was silence after that.
"Did they leave?" I whispered to Henry.
Suddenly the desk we were hiding behind was thrown into the wall. It made a big crashing noise and we both got up to see two guys and a girl. My eyes widened as Jannis grinned over at me.
"I knew she was here" She chuckled to the guy standing in the middle.
They were all wearing black. The guy in the middle had short brown hair. His eyes were a weird reddish color I had never seen before. The other guy had weird greenish hair and a goofy smile on his face.
"What do they want from you?" I hissed at Henry.
"We hear you've been telling people about us, telling them our secrets" The brown hair guy said to Henry, walking towards us. "Telling secrets isn't good"
I gulped as Henry and I back up.
"H-Hey you guys, w-we can all t-talk this through" I stuttered, looking at them.
They all looked really weird. They were looking at us like they were hungry. Like we were food.
"We could talk... or we could just do this" The guy said, grabbing me and throwing me towards the broken desk.
Painfully I landed on the desk and heard a loud crack. I wasn't sure if it was my spine or if I just broke the desk even more. What ever happened, it hurt. I managed to sit up a little to see the three of them surround Henry.
What's wrong with these freaks?!
Slowly I got up, realizing I didn't get hurt too bad. I could hear Henry scream as I spotted the bottle of holy water on the floor. Quickly I grabbed it and undid the cap.
This better work
"Get away from him!" I yelled, running over to them.
Jannis turned to me with a grin as the two guys ignored me.
"Whatcha doing Rei?" She asked, watching my hand that was holding the holy water.
She was about to lunge at me, but I quickly splashed her in the face.
"Bitch!" She yelled as it burned her face, making smoke.
Quickly I ran out of the office to see they had knocked over a few shelves of books. Cold air froze the room from the windows and door being broken. I was about to make it outside, but a hand grabbed me and pulled me back, making me fall. I looked up to see Jannis looking down at me angrily, her face had a big burnt mark on it. She lifted her hand like she was going to punch me so I quickly rolled over several books and managed to stand up, almost tripping on another book.
"Look what you did to my face! Your so died!" She screamed at me angrily.
She grabbed at my arm, but missed, grabbing my hair instead. She pulled it hard.
"Ow!" I yelled and tried to get her hand away.
She grabbed my hand instead, letting go of my hair, and started to crush it.
"Let go of me!" I screamed.
"No!" She yelled back, crushing my hand even more.
I did the only thing I could think of. I pulled her hand towards me and bit it as hard as I could.
"What the hell are you doing?!" She yelled, letting go of my hand and looking down at her own.
I bit so hard I could taste a copper.
EW THAT'S HER BLOOD
I was about to try and spit it out, but she grabbed my throat and pulled me towards her.
"I'm supose to bite you, not the other way around" She heaved, her eyes burning into mine.
She let go of my throat and grabbed my shoulders. I gasped for air as she threw my hair away from my neck.
"J-Jannis! Don't!"
It was too late. Before I could try to get away from her, her teeth lunged out at my neck and went in.
"OWW!" I screamed.
My whole body filled with pain as she began sucking out my blood. It felt awful. It was the worst feeling I had ever felt.
My best friend... is killing me... she's killing me... she's...
I suddenly felt extremely weak. I blinked a couple of times as everything started to slow down. I couldn't hear Henry's screams anymore. I couldn't feel the cold wind that was blasting through the store. I could hardly feel the pain in my neck anymore.
Is... this what dying feels like?
A few seconds later everything went black. I couldn't feel anything. I was dead.
