I paused for a moment, then changed the subject.
"What just happened to us?"
"These are called our 'Pichi' forms. That's how we fight," said Karen, a little too enthusiastically. "Now, if those psychos ever turn up again, shout 'Cerulean Pearl Voice.' You'll know what to do next."
I shifted my gaze from Karen to the open sea. "It's a good thing Haru wasn't here," I murmured.
"Did someone say my name?" said Haru, emerging from behind some trees, holding a bottle of water and an ice cream cone. "Here ya go," he added, handing the ice cream to Seira.
"Nothing," I said hastily. He didn't question me further.

The anxiety of facing those two weirdos, Sheshe and Mimi, weighed down on my mind for the rest of the evening. I still didn't feel any better even when I got home. I decided to have a warm bath and relax. But I was so preoccupied, I forgot to take off my locket.
"KYAAAH!"
As soon as my body touched the water I fell into the bath, owing to the fact that my legs had fused into a blue fish tail. My hair was once again knee-length and blue streaked, and I was wearing a seashell bra. I was, indeed, a mermaid.
The bathroom door opened and in came Ame (but how, I don't know).
"What's wrong? Oh..."
"AME, HOW DO I CHANGE BACK?!"
"Calm down. Just dry yourself off." Then she turned and walked back out.
I dried off, and soon I resumed my normal state. Then, feeling that I'd had enough excitement to last a lifetime, I went off to sleep.

After that, however, every night I would go down to the beach, dive in the water, and look at the stars in my mermaid form.
I heaved myself onto a wide, flat rock and tilted my head back to look at the full moon. I softly began to sing my favorite song.

Suddenly I broke off as I heard voices from beneath the waves. Straining my ears, I could tell that they were both female. I jumped off the rock to investigate.
Through the water I could make out two figures. I swam closer, hoping that it wasn't Sheshe and Mimi. However, their customary color-combo of red and blue was nowhere to be seen. Instead I saw two mermaids, one with a deep red tail and dark purple hair, and the other, smaller, one with a pale, springy green tail and hair the same shade, held back with pigtails (but not high like Luchia's). As I drew nearer I could hear some of their conversation.
"Onee-Chan, I'm tired," complained the green mermaid. "How my farther do we have to swim?"
"Lia! Stop calling me Onee-Chan. It's too cute for me. And we're almost to land."
"Yeah, but you don't like it when I call you Sayo-Chan either-"
"SO JUST CALL ME SAYO, DANG IT!" cried the deep red mermaid. Then they both caught sight of me.
Aaaaand the process starts all over again...
