Mr. Woods.
Oh hownatural. Haha. Mr. Woods turned around to face the class with an everlasting smile.
"Well class," he started off, clapping his hands together. "As you can see my name is Mr. Woods." And then he went on about his life and his teaching career. I didn't find it much interesting so I dozed off into my head somewhere where the clouds are green and the grass was blue. I was enjoying my peaceful moment up in my own world till Mr. Woods voice rang loudly through my fragile ears, like two giant cymbals banged together.
"Yes?" I asked, boredly.
"Would you be so kind to show around our new student at lunch?" he asked, peering down at my perplexed face with his brown eyes. I had a deep urge to yell 'what' in his face, but I kept my calm.
"New student?" I asked, not aware of what had been going on for the last five minutes.
He straightened up, with his hands folded, still looking at me, but this time he was smiling.
"Yes, new student." he pointed to a girl behind him who came a little forward. Her head was down, all I could see was her dark brown hair swaying around her face like curtains. A knee length skirt draped over her legs, and a dark purple zip-up sweater over a white shirt. "This is Ella Vargo." he placed a hand on her shoulder, she looked really uncomfortable.
I didn't know what to say. What if this girl was a total...a total...priss! I mean, she wasn't saying much from what I saw, shy that was obvious. But i didn't want to take chances and make friends with an--
"Nat, and I can show her around Mr. Woods." I heard Louie say from behind me. I spun around shooting him a death glare. He shrugged and sat down with an uncertain face.
I sighed heavily and Ella finally looked up. I smiled at her, hoping she wouldn't fling at me with sudden fangs shooting out of her mouth. But surprisingly she smiled back.
Mr. Woods told Hannah to move down one seat so Ella could sit next to me. I didn't mind, after all she had proved she wasn't a blood sucking vampire. Now there was just the other few things she had to prove, heh, just kidding.
Like any other boring school day, we learned math..and math, and some math. Except there was a certain twist to today's lesson. And I'm not talking about two new people in one day, but as shocking as it may sound, Mr. Woods was a GOOD teacher. Seriously, when do you ever find one of those? Now I am NOT saying I'm in love with him, or whatever your mind may be thinking, but I actual appreciated the man! Aha! Can you believe it? Me, appreciating a teacher after having to suffer through the many torture able classes with Mrs. Hickel?! Wow...I surprised my self.
The day seemed to be passing by quickly, and just as I finished up the apple tarts in Mrs. Hickle's class, the lunch bell rang.
"Finally!" Josh, the "skater boy" yelled out. Mrs. Hickel threw him a dirty look before dismissing the class.
I rushed out with Louie, not realizing that Ella was running behind him trying to keep up.
"Oh, heh, sorry Ella." I apologized, smiling at her.
"No problem." she said, returning the smile. "you don't mind if I hang out with you two, do you?" she asked.
I raised an eyebrow.
"Of course not!"
She sighed happily. "I just thought you would, seeing that you and Louie are best friends, and always hang out."
My perplexed expression threw a laugh out of her.
"Louie told me." she said. I looked at Louie, with my raised eyebrow. He blushed.
We sat down at our usual table in the cafeteria, our lunches across our table.
Louie pulled out two chocolate brownies, and handed one over to me. I had two pepper turkey sandwiches and threw one at him, accidentally hitting him in the face.
"Woops. Sorry." I giggled, Ella joined in. Everyday, I brought the sandwiches and Louie brought the dessert. Then we split them up. Except Louie had forgotten to bring the drinks today, we each took turns with those. I told Ella of our routine and she seemed amazed.
"That's so cool!" she said, her eyes glowing with excitement. "Me and my old friends never used to do that."
"We're sorry we didn't bring you anything...we didn't know." Louie said, bowing his head in guilt. "You can have my lunch if you like." He blushed even harder. I couldn't help it, I had to laugh.
"Eat your lunch Lipinski." I told him. I slid my lunch over to Ella. "You can have mine, I'm not very hungry."
"Oh no," she slid it back, refusing. "I can't just take your lunch, that would be rude."
I laughed again. She was surprisingly very polite, I liked it. I slid the brownie and sandwich back to her, holding it in the spot before her.
"Look, eat the lunch and you can start bringing the drinks from tomorrow." I let go of the food, retreating my hands. "What do you say? You OK with splitting lunch with Louie and I?" I asked. A wide grin spread across Ella's face, she nodded and dug into the sandwich.
"Mmmmm, this is so good. And the brownie!" Louie and I laughed. "I can't wait for tomorrow!"
After eating, we headed down to the lake near our school, and sat down by the big cherry tree. There was a nice warm breeze outside, just perfect for enjoying the scene. Louie began to skip rocks in the lake, and I took the advantage to get to know Ella better.
"So Ella, where did you come from?" I asked her, bringing one knee up to rest my chin on. She sat cross legged on the grass, her skirt draping over her bare legs.
"California." she asnwered. Wow, I thought. That was on the other side of the states. I think I had a few family members living there.
"Awesome!" I said.
"Any siblings?" Louie asked, turning around and making his was over to us. He plopped down on the grass, spreading his legs out and leaning on his palms.
"A little sister, Ellen, she's seven."
"Ella and Ellen...wow." Louie said.
"Yah," Ella sighed. "My parents get us confused a lot." I nodded, smiling a little. I thought of something else to ask her, and saw Louie looking my way, glancing wildly. It was time for the questions.
"Favorite color?" I asked quickly.
"Favorite animal?" Louie added, hurriedly.
"Sport?"
"Season?"
"Book?"
"Food?"
"UNDERWEAR?" Me and Louie screamed at the same time, jumping up. Ella was astounded at the sudden questions being thrown at her. She took in a deep breath and said, all at once,
"Purple, cat, volleyball, summer, All American Girl by Meg Cabot, cheese pizza, and WHAT?"
Me and Louie broke out laughing at the last answer...or more of a question.
"The last part was a joke." I said, after controlling myself from my hedious laughter.
The rest of the lunch period was spent asking Ella more questions, and she asked some about us. When the bell had rung for lunch to end, it was like we were three best friends.
While we walked back to the school, I realized at that moment, Ella had become one of our bestfriends. I guess this school day wasn't as bad as I was thinking it would be.
Thanks Ella.
