RECAAAAP!!
"Well?" Colt asks impatiently, when the doctor is done.
"She... she has a chance... but.." he begins. You picture him shaking his head sadly.
"She may never wake up."
Silence follows this proclamtion.
"Never?" whispers Colt.
"I'm so sorry," the doctor says. Then he starts packing his tools.
"Check back with me in a week. If she still hasn't woken..." and he trails off. The door opens, then closes, creaking in protest.
"Oh, Kira.." it is Sam who expresses his sadness first.
"I can't believe this is happening," Gabe says softly. You struggle to comprehend the doctor's diagnosis. Never wake up? Does he mean you'll be stuck like this forever? The words sink in like a large boulder being dropped repeatedly on your head. You had a week to get yourself out of this. After that... he had implied... they wouldn't...
They were going to kill you.
Do do do do do, Inspector Gadget.
The days pass in an intense slowness. Noone seems to be talking very much. You know they've realized there is nothing they can do to help you, and it kills them. You don't know what to do. How are you supposed to bring yourself out of a coma? You can't even move. It feels like you're pretending to be asleep, but you can't open your eyes, or move at all. You've tried tugging at your mind, willing yourself to awaken, but you can't do it. It makes no sense. You feel perfectly alert- all of your senses except for sight are in working condition. And yet... to everyone else, you weren't there. You long to tell them you can hear them. It's been three days- each day, someone has been at your side. It's usually Colt and Sam. They have stopped fighting and are now concentrating on your illness. Rajan stopped by the day after you found out. He made no fuss when he was told the doctor had already stopped by. He accepted the news and you wish dearly you could have seen his face before he left. Was he upset? He could have been faking it. You really have no way of knowing. You scoff in annoyance. You have been lying awake for three days. Here in the realm that you were living, you never slept. You only layed there. You never thought that it would feel this way, being so close to death. It was like it was a dark, hooded figure hovering very near to you, only waiting for that seventh day to come so it could take you away. You are terrified to die. Who wouldn't be? You aren't even close to your brink, and have so much more life to live. You don't want to leave... not yet...
"God damn it, we're vampires! Isn't there SOMETHING we can do??" Gabe yells, and his chair screeches as it scrapes the floor. He must have stood up.
"Gabe... calm down," Colt's smooth voice cuts right through the air. You feel yourself straining to take in every wave. He hasn't talked in so long...
"No, I will not! She shouldn't be stuck like this!" Gabe exclaims. You want to throw yourself at him and kiss him. He was so sweet.. in his own way.
"Well, there's not much we can do about it," Colt replies softly. He sounds so sincere and you want to cry. Heat rises to your eyes, putting you in shock. You're crying? But that's impossible.
"We need to try something, then!! I can't take it!"
"Gabe, sit down."
"No! I want to fix her! I want her to get better!"
"AND YOU THINK I DON'T?!" Colt is yelling now. The bed jumps a little as he flies from his seat. You feel your body rise with the bounce, but the usual dizziness it would cause is not there.
"We're talking about the woman I love here, Gabe! I LOVE HER!" you wonder if he's pointing at you.
"I don't want to stand around and watch her die any more than you do, but WE CAN'T HELP HER! She's got to do this on her own..." his voice quiets at the last sentence. And then he's crying. You can hear his sobs, the loud thump as he falls to his knees. You know Stacy has rushed to comfort him. You've never heard Colt cry like this before. Sure, you'd seen it once, but it wasn't like this. Now he was crying openly, freely, his tears falling on to the carpet beneath him. You know this because you see him in your mind, can picture him perfectly. You want to console him, to tell him you're okay. That familiar heat forms at your eyes again, and suddenly they are wet. You can feel it as a warm tear falls down your cheek. You want to move to wipe it away, but you still cannot. So the single tear runs down your chin and drops onto your shirt.
"Guys..." Sam, who had been silent all this time, whispers. "Guys, look at this!" he's louder now. Colt's cries choke to a stop. You know all eyes are on you now. Several more tears fall to join the other, until they are rushing from your cold eyes in a stream that you can't hold back.
"She's crying," Stacy whispers.
"Kira..." Colt says longingly. Then all is quiet as you cry silently, outside and in. You're suddenly not afraid. You know that no matter what happens, Colt will never stop loving you. Neither will Sam, Stacy or Gabe. Or your father, or mother, or any of your friends you may have left behind. They all loved you so much, and you would never forget them. You are completely relaxed, and the tears slowly stop. Cold hands reach up and wipe your cheeks. You know instantly it is Colt- his hands were shaking, but soft.
"She's here," Sam says, "She's listening."
"Kira?" Gabe mumbles tentavely. You try to nod your head, but fail. You send him a telepathic 'go ahead.' You want to hear what he has to say.
"Kira... please pull through this. Do it for us- for all of us. You can't leave us like this. We need you."
"He's right, ya know, sis. You're not allowed to just up and die. You've got a lot of unfinished business to attend to, so you better hurry up and get out of that dumb coma."
"Yeah, Kira. Stop being lazy. What a lame excuse- you just don't want to do work. Stop being fainant and get out of that bed." And then it was Colt's turn to talk.
"Kira..." he whispers. You feel yourself dying to know what he's thinking. (me: haha, pun.) He takes a deep breath, and then lets it out slowly.
"I love you, Kira. I love you and I don't want you to leave me. You can't leave me. I... I can't live without you..." there is such sadness in his voice that you know his eyes are watering again.
"C'mon," you hear Stacy whisper. She tugs Gabe and your brother out of the room- the door shuts so quietly you almost don't hear it.
"Kira, come back to me. Come back to me. I need you. I know... I know I haven't always been the best person to you... I'm sorry I bit you all those times. I'm sorry you are a vampire and have to murder so much. I'm sorry that I kidnapped you that day, but you have to understand. I was in love with you- I always was. I had watched you... so long, I watched you. I needed someone.. anyone.. to be with. I chose you because you are so beautiful, but now.. you are so much more than that. I love you with all of my heart and soul, Kira. You cannot die on me. If I lost you... oh, Kira... please... PLEASE come back to me," you know you are crying again when he stops. God, how much you love him. You know then that dying is not an option. You were going to get right up and pretend this never happened. You long to be free more than you've ever wanted anything- Please, PLEASE let me go. Let me wake up- let me have him back. I need him. I love him. I love him. Suddenly, you feel as if your spirit is being pulled at. It's tugging away from you, sliding from you. You try to pull it back in but it fights harder. It pops away from you in a fluid motion, and for a few seconds you are nothing. And then, with all the power in your heart that is the love for the man beside you, the feeling floods back into your bones. Your fingers flinch as you whip back into conciousness, and your eyes flutter open.
"Colt..."
