Chapter Ten
She opened her eyes, slowly looking up, seeing Uru was already awake. He was looking at her. Mary smiled a bit. "You're awake.."
Uru nodded a bit, but he didn't seem happy.
Of course he didn't... How could he be happy right now?
"Look.. I understand why-" "I'm horrible... I'm sorry that I-" "I know.. But you couldn't help it.." They were both silent now.
Uru sighed. "Looks like we're with the 2 of us now..." Mary shook her head. "Not for long... They will remember us soon..."
Uru remained silent. Mary remembered everything that happened yesterday... Yesterday night..
What was it now? Day or night?
Mary looked behind her, seeing Mana wasn't there, and Kazuno either. Juka was on the other hand. He was looking at her.
It was probably night again.
When he saw she noticed him, he quickly looked away. "I'm sorry for your loss." Mary nodded. "It's night?" Juka nodded. "You slept through the day.." Mary sighed.
Already her night and day were turning...
She turned her head back to Uru, and saw he was standing up. She did as well. "Where's Mana?", Uru asked Juka. "And Kazuno?", Mary asked immediately. Juka sighed a bit. "They're looking for the rest. If they remember they will be brought back." "And if they don't, they will be left there?" Juka nodded. "It'd be too dangerous if they would come home if they wouldn't remember."
Mary understood. She just missed them so much.....
What was supposed to happen now?
What was she supposed to do?
She didn't know...
She sighed, sitting down on the bed now. Uru sat down next to her, putting his hand on her back. "It'll be okay..", he said. Mary shook her head. "What are we supposed to do now? Just sit here?"
Uru looked at Juka, wondering the same thing probably. Juka didn't answer.
Mary sighed again, looking at her hands. "Will we be able to smile again?" "Of course.." "How?" "It won't be like this always... They'll come back and it will be the same again.", Uru answered. Mary looked at him. "Why don't I believe that?"
Uru didn't answer. The door opened and Kazuno came in. "You're awake!", he said, looking at Mary. "Yes. How did it go?" Kazuno shook his head. "I haven't found them..." Mary felt disappointed... She wanted them back.
It seemed Kazuno noticed. "But don't worry.. Mana is still busy searching. He'll find them.." Mary nodded. The question was; would they remember?...
Mary stood up again, opening the door. "Where are you going?", Kazuno asked. "I'm just going to sit in front of this place..." Juka pointed at Uru. "You go with her. Just to make sure she's safe." Kazuno looked at Juka, not believing what he just heard. "HE? Why not me?!"
Mary didn't stick around to hear their argument, and went out, sitting down on the ground just outside the mausoleum. She looked up at the stars, remembering that she had done the same not so long ago with Takanori. He made her smile then..
Uru sat down next to her, noticing her looking at the stars. "What are you thinking of?", he asked her. Mary lifted her shoulders a bit. "I.. Just..." She stopped talking. She had seen a shooting star shooting over her. She sighed.
There were so many things to wish for... Them being safe, them remembering, them coming home.
She closed her eyes, thinking hard of her wish...... 'I wish they're safe.'
She opened her eyes again. Uru looked at her. "What'd you wish for?" Mary shook her head. "I won't tell... 'Else it won't work."
Uru grinned a bit. "How are you able to grin like that?", Mary asked him. Uru lifted his shoulders. "I guess.. Somewhere I know it will be okay." Mary nodded, understanding.
She looked back at the stars again, seeing the brightest star she'd ever seen. "Where do stars go during the day?", she decided to ask Uru.
The same question she had asked Takanori.
"They go make baby stars and drink whisky after that.", Uru simply said. Mary's eyebrows popped up, as she looked at him. He looked so convincing. But still she didn't believe him. "You're lying."
Whenever Takanori spoke, she would believe him... Why didn't it work with Uru?
Uru smiled. "No, I'm not lying."
His smile was stunning.... Beautiful...
Takanori's smile was beautiful too.... And Kai's.... And Aoi's..... Rei's was more funny.
Mary sighed, looking at Uru smile. That look turned into a stare. "What?", Uru asked her. Mary snapped out of it, shaking her head violently. "Nothing, nothing."
It was silent for a few seconds.
"You're still lying though..", Mary said. Uru smiled again, shaking his head a bit. "You're so weird.. Why do you think I'm lying?" "Because you always make up weird stories." Uru sighed, then smiled again.
His smile was enchanting....
Then all of the sudden, Uru pointed at Mary. "You're smiling!" Mary popped her eyebrows up again. "No, I'm not." "Yes, you are!"
He poked her cheek a bit, and Mary pulled her head away. "Stop it!"
She stood up, pointing at Uru. "You're annoying!" Uru's jaw dropped, but still he was smiling a bit. "Why?!" "Because!"
It turned silent for a while again.
Then Uru suddenly embraced her, holding her against his chest. Mary didn't expect this, but decided to embrace him back. "Why this hug?" "Because... Because I... Just because..", Uru vaguely said. Mary pulled back after a while, looking at him. "You're not telling me something.." Uru shook his head. "No.. Not true.."
"Why don't I believe you?" "Because you never believe anything I say.", Uru simply said.
It turned silent again.
"Smile for me?", Uru asked Mary. Mary was taken aback from this question. "Why?" "I like seeing you smile.." Mary popped her eyebrows up ones again. "Why are you pulling that face? Is that weird?", Uru innocently asked her. Mary rolled her eyes. "You're weird yourself..", Mary simply said. Uru stood up now as well, patting her on her head. "You are too."
Mary looked at him, as he looked back at her. "Why am I weird?", Mary asked. "Because I say so.", Uru said.
A moment of silence came by again, as they both just looked at each other. Not saying anything.
"WHERE IS SHE?!", they suddenly heard from inside the mausoleum.
Mary didn't give it a second thought and ran inside, seeing Mana standing there, having Aoi brought with him. Aoi was looking around like an idiot, and ran around; sometimes looking under a bed or something like that. "Aoi?", Mary asked unbelievingly. Aoi stopped running and looking around, looking straight at Mary.
"Aaaa!", he screamed like a girl, running to her and embracing her tightly. "You're alive!"
Mary smiled, embracing him back. "You are as well!"
Hours passed by, as they were now sitting on the beds. Mana was sitting on the couch, Kazuno was sitting on the left of him, and Juka on the right. They were talking.
Mana couldn't get the rest of the boys with him, because Aoi was the only one that remembered. Mana had told Takanori was the one that was the worst of them all. He had been bitten by Kasumi herself. Having wished Mary would experience forbidden love.
Mary was sitting with Uru and Aoi. Aoi asked what happened in the time he wasn't there. Uru and Mary told him.
Aoi didn't want to tell what had happened with him though... What he had done....
A few moments passed by again, before Aoi and Uru both entered the hungry fase again.
They were both looking at Mary as if she was a nice piece of chicken, as Mary stood up and ran to Kazuno. Kazuno looked at what she was running away from, and tapped Mana. Mana stood up immediately, ordering Kazuno to protect Mary.
In a second, Uru and Aoi started fighting with each other, about who was going to drink from Mary.
Mary knew why Aoi didn't want to tell what he had done in that time.... In the time he was with the rest of the boys.
Mary knew he had murdered people in that night. To stop his hunger.
After Mana and Juka let Aoi and Uru drink from their hands; not from their neck 'cause Aoi and Uru were both too young and greedy for blood (it would mean they would drink so much from Mana and Juka that they would die), and then both fell asleep.
Mary sighed, not wanting to experience this one more time... But she knew she had to. She didn't have a choice.
