Dave England sat beside me eating chips, as I ate crappy jello from the cafeteria. I glared at him.
"Why you gotta do that?"
"What?"
"Eat chips and my favourite not to mention."
"I'm hungry."
"Can't we trade?"
"Mmmm. Nope."
I would have hit him but that was definitely out of the question when I was in all this pain. He tossed the last chip in his mouth and tossed the bag in a little white bucket on the ground.
"So what'd they say about your knee?", he asked breaking the silence.
"They said I shouldn't skateboard anymore cuz its putting my bone and muscle function in major jeopardy."
"Aww man, I'm so sorry."
He leaned over and wrapped his arm around me very gently and hugged me. I smiled.
"I don't care. I'd jeopardize my knee or never skate again, just to be with Ehren. I miss him alot.", I said weakly.
"Why do you like him so much. I mean its Ehren, he's average."
I shook my head at Dave with my lips pursed slightly.
"Ehren is unique. Don't ever call him average, he's not like anyone I've ever met before. He's beautiful."
Dave smiled brightly at me.
"I know he misses you Jamie."
"No, I doubt it..."
"No he does, he's not acting like himself at all."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, during our Jackass break he's been down at his skate surf and snow shop. My buddy who goes there alot to chat with him and get snow stuff was saying how he's been being rude to customers. Like he yelled at this kid for dropping this new deck that came in. Totally kicked him out of the fucking place!", Dave exclaimed.
"Whoa.", was all I could say.
"Yeah and he's been drinking more and is just being so hostile. He's s'posed to be the nicest guy but he's falling apart."
"He's the one who broke up with me."
Dave paused and took a drink of water.
"You have no idea how hard it was to let you go. You have no idea how much he regrets it."
"Well look at me? Am I happy?!"
Dave let out a heavy sigh.
"Here's the difference. It's nothing but your fault. Ehren's pushed around all the time and the last thing he wanted was for you to say what you did to him that day. You broke something in him..."
I looked down. It was all true.
"And I'm just afraid. He's gunna break the rest of himself."
Damn.
