Thunder rolled loudly in the clouds, threatening a storm. I looked up, seeing as much as the clouds as I could.
Guess what? I'm lost in the woods.
"I didn't even know there was a forest this big..." I grumbled angrily, pulling my light blue jacket closer around me.
It was chilly outside and the wind constantly blew, not helping me keep warm. Especially since I was wearing shorts...
I found myself wandering down a path, and I was curious to see what would be at the end.
"I should really be finding my way out..." I mumbled as I looked down a small hill. For a second I was confused. "Who lives all the way out here?" then suddenly I felt a wave of relief. "Whoever lives there should know the way out of here!" Quickly following the path and running to the front door, I kept reviewing in my mind what I was going to say to the owner of the house.
Even though I was totally unprepared, I lifted my fist to knock on the door. I stopped as the rain pelted down.
"....joy...." I said unhappily as I knocked on the door. "Hello?!" I called out. "Does anyone live here?!"
Knocking a few more times, I debated whether or not to let myself in. Well, I didn't...it would be trespassing. So I turned and began to walk the other direction.
"Hello? Miss!" a kind voice came from behind me.
A huge smile spread on my face. Someone was home! I quickly turned around and looked at the person happily.
Yuki Sohma?
This small detail made me really confused. Yuki lived in the middle of the woods? "Oh...uh. Well I was wondering if you could point me in the right dire--" I was cut off by myself sneezing.
"Why don't you come in?" Yuki asked, stepping to the side and making room for me. "Your already sick."
"No I'll be--" I was cut off by me sneezing again. "Ok, thanks."
Yuki led me into the house and handed me a towel. "What are you doing all the way out here?" he sat across from me at the table.
"Well I went for a walk." I looked around the room. "Does anyone else live here?"
Yuki shifted his gaze to the pounding rain outside the windows. "Yes. But I believe with this rain they'd be held back at the Sohma estate."
A light red passed over my cheeks. "So we're....alone?"
"Yes. I'm sorry about that." he smiled kindly. "When the rain stops you can go home." I sneezed again. "Do you want something to drink? To eat?"
"Oh no." I smiled back. "Well I'm sorry about stopping by I didn't know you lived here. Who else to you live with?"
"Shigure, Kyo and Tohru Honda." he replied. He looked at me as if trying to place where he had seen me before. "Excuse me asking, but you go to my school, right?"
"Yep!" hopefully he didn't remember me.
"Weren't you friends with Mitoko?" he finally asked, making me flush in embarrassment. "She had you ask me out for her."
"Eh...yeah...that's me!" I rubbed the back of my head. "Well I'm sorry about that."
"It's ok really." he said, leaning back. "Your name was....Ami?"
"You remember?" I asked excitedly. "Yeah that's my name! And everyone knows your, Yuki."
He opened his mouth, but was cut off by me sneezing again. When he opened his mouth a second time, I sneezed.
"I'm getting you something to drink." he stood up.
"No!" I shouted, reaching my hand out. "I'm fine really! Just...errr...allergies! Please don't worry about me."
"No. I'm getting you something. Is soup ok? I'm not the best of a cook." he stood up and went towards the door.
"Well..no!" I stood up. "Don't go through the trouble. How about just a cup of tea instead?"
Yuki smiled. "That'll be easier for me.
I smiled. "Ok, that'll be fine then." Yuki went into the other room and I quietly snuck over. Standing at the doorway, I watched as he put a kettle on the stove.
Before Yuki saw me, I ran over to my side of the table and pulled the towel back over my shoulders. Yuki came back in the room and looked at me. Had he seen me?
"How come I don't see you hanging around Mitoko anymore?" he asked suddenly.
"Hm? Oh well....I got kinda annoyed with you being her focus." Yuki sweatdropped at what I said. "But! Hey." I held my hand out. "Let's start over? I mean when I first spoke to you, I was asking you out for her. How about I get a conversation going? What's your favorite animal?!"
Yuki blinked. "I'm not sure really..."
"Oh. Well mine is...a mouse! Or a rat! I mean those things are so cute! They can do almost anything! I also like horses! There such lager animals and so powerful!" I stood up and held the towel over my shoulders.
"A...rat?" Yuki questioned.
"Eh, yeah people say it's strange. Well...next question!" I heard a whistling. "Is the water boiling?"
Yuki looked over his shoulder. "It is. I'll be right back."
It fell silent as the Sohma left into the kitchen. But he came back only a minute later holding a cup. "Here." he walked over to me and handed me the mug.
"Thanks." I said, bringing it up to my lips.
"Careful it's hot." Yuki took a step back.
Nodding, but going to take a sip anyway...I immediately regretted it. It was hotter than I thought, and I pulled my head away and pushed the cup away.
The tea spilled everywhere, almost getting on me.
"Ami be careful!" Yuki shouted as he took the towel from my back and quickly laid it on my lap. before the hot liquid went through the towel, I stood up and tried to clean off my burning arm.
"Are you ok?" Yuki asked, reaching over and using the clean part of the towel to dry my arm.
My face was burning in embarrassment. "Yeah. I'm really, really sorry about that. I'm such a klutz."
"No. It was an accident." Yuki said in an understanding voice. He carefully took the almost empty cup from me and placed it on the table.
Both of us bent over at the same time to clean up the spill. I grimaced as I bumped heads with 'The Prince.'
"Owwwww." I groaned as I placed my hand on my head. "Geez...sorry about that. I'll clean it up."
"No it's ok. I've got it." Yuki said.
My grey-ish eyes met with his deep purple ones. For a moment we didnt move. I bit my lower lip and smiled an awkward smile. Yuki chuckled and sat up.
"I got it!" I shouted, reaching over and starting to clean the mess. "And I'm really, really sorry about this. I wish I could do-over that moment."
Yuki stood up and picked up the cup. "I'll get you some more."
"Please and thank you." I replied, picking up the wet towel and lazily folding it. "Where should I put this?" I looked around.
There was a door at the end of the hall, and I figured it was either a bathroom or a closet.
Won't kill to check.
I opened the door and smiled, glad it was a bathroom. I placed the tea soaked towel in the sink and turned around.
"Oof!" I grunted, getting ready to face plant on the tile floor.
But someone caught me.
I opened my eyes and saw my arms were being held by Yuki's. He smiled and chuckled. "I'm sorry about that."
"Eh...no problem." I said while standing back up. "What happened there?"
"I'm guessing we both backed into each other." Yuki said, taking a hold of my writs. "Your tea is on the table."
"Thanks! I'll be more careful this time. Unless you really still want to clean up a mess." I joked.
Yuki smiled. "No it's alright."
I finished my tea, Yuki and I had been in silence the entire time. He just looked outside, and I had only concentrated on finishing all of my tea.
"Is it still pouring?" I asked, hoping to break the silence. If only I had thought of something to say.
"Yes. I'm afraid it is. Will your parents be worried?" he lifted his head from his hand and looked at me.
My eyes widened. "Your right! Do you have a phone?!" I stood up, but tripped over my shoes...which I had put besides me.
"Ami!" Yuki shouted as he got up. I lay on the ground, laughing. "Are you ok?" Yuki placed a hand on my back and helped me sit up.
"Yeah." I laughed. "Just fine. I'm a klutz."
"No your not." Yuki said.
I slowly turned to look at him. How could someone be so nice and caring towards others? Yuki was so nice to me, even though by now I'm sure someone would have agreed with me...not joking. But I smiled thankfully.
Yuki reached out and pulled something from my blue hair. I blushed as he took the twig from it.
"Is your hair a natural blue?" he asked, running his fingers through my short hair.
My face burned now. "Y-y-yeah. People m-m-make f-fun of m-me." I stammered. "I tried to d-dye it o-o-nce. It made it worse."
Yuki pulled hi hand away from me. "Why did you want to change it? I think it looks nice."
"Your j-j-just being ni-n-nice." I stammered once again, uncomfortable at how close to me he was.
"No. I really do think it looks nice." he smiled. "You are very beautiful."
Pinch me I'm dreaming. Actually let me keep dreaming.
"Y-y-y-you think s-so?"
Yuki stood up, a bit of red on his cheeks. "I do. Aren't you cold?" he completely changed the subject.
"No....not really..." I said, following him off the topic. "Um, hey Yuki?"
"Yes?"
Smiling, I held me cup out. "Can I have more tea? It was really good."
"Sure." he took the mug from me and walked into the kitchen. As he did that, I got up and used the phone to call my parents.
Sitting back down, I rested my head on the table and sighed. I was so tired...before I knew it, I drifted off into a light sleep.
"Ami...Ami..." someone gently shook me. "Ami wake up."
"Oh...hm?" I said tiredly as I lifted my head up. Then I realized I had fallen asleep. "WHAT TIME IS IT?! HOW LONG WAS I SLEEPING?!" I got up and walked to nowhere.
Yuki grabbed my wrist. "Don't worry. You were asleep for only 2 hours. It is still raining, but I didn't want you to sleep all day."
"Oh..." I rubbed my eyes. "Thanks."
Standing up, I met face-to-face with Yuki. Well he had bent over to help me up, and we were really close. I swallowed, hard at how close our faces where. Yuki reached out for my hand, but slowly pulled his hand away.
"Oh..." I took a step back and blushed.
Yuki stood up and spoke; "Would you like something to eat? We have food in the fridge that I would be more than happy to warm up for you."
"Oh...please just a little bit. I'll do it, though." I said, walking over to the kitchen.
"Are you sure?" Yuki followed me.
"Weren't you the one that said you couldn't cook?" I turned to him, a smile on my face.
"Oh..yes...I can't cook." he said, hanging his head in slight shame.
"Aw don't worry about it! I can handle it!" Yuki went to the fridge and took out a small pot of beef stew. He handed it to me, and I put it on the stove.
Turning to the window, I looked outside at the rain. It wasn't so bad anymore, though.
"Would you like to stand on the porch?" Yuki asked suddenly.
"Sure! Just for a few minutes." I said, following Yuki outside. I smiled and listened to the rain.
Yuki was looking at me, but I didn't notice.
When I looked over to him, I saw him turn away. A light blush spread on my face. "Yuki? Were you going to ask something?"
"No. I'm sorry about that." he replied quietly.
"You don't have to keep apologizing for everything." I smiled warmly and he looked over at me. Our eyes locked for the second time today, but I took a step back.
I can't like him....he's Prince Yuki. The girls at school will have my head. Yuki noticed the look on my face and took a step towards me.
"Ami are you ok?" he asked.
"Oh yeah!" I shouted. "See I was thinking...I mean how mad the girls at school would be if they knew I was here with you."
"I wouldn't worry about them." Yuki said. "They don't have to know."
A smile formed on my face. "Okay. Our secret is safe." I began to step to the side, but quickly changed my mind and wanted to sit down. There was a puddle, and I slipped on it.
"Ami!" Yuki shouted, reaching out to grab me. I fell onto of him, a cloud of smoke slowly fading away.
I grabbed a handful of...clothes?
My eyes widened as under me, lay a small rat. "Erm...."
the rat quickly stood up. "Ami!" It shouted, making my eyes widened even more. "I'm sorry you...learned about it this way."
Well I freaked. "OMG WHAT DID I DO TO YOU YUKI?!" I bellowed, waving my arms around. "I'M SOOOOO SORRY! I'M SUCH A KLUTZ! WHAT DID I DO TO MAKE YOU TURN INTO A RAT?! IS THIS NORMAL FOR YOU?! YUKI I--"
"AMI!" the little rat shouted. "Ami please calm down and don't be frightened. No your not a klutz." he looked down at his little paw.
I smiled and picked him up. "I'm not frightened. I love rats." I kissed the small rats' head. "Your so cute!"
Yuki looked up at me. "You're not afraid?"
"Of a mouse?" I smiled. "No way!" Yuki climbed up my arm and onto my shoulder, wrapping his little paws around my neck.
"Thank you Ami..." he said. "But you won't remember this."
"What?!" I shouted, lifting the rat off my shoulder. "What do you mean I won't remember?"
"Akito will have to erase your memory."
"Well then. Lets keep this our little secret, ne?" I winked and kissed the little rat once again.
