"Kenshinki..." You repeated slowly.
You knew that name from somewhere. As you gripped the carpet, you felt something from inside you escape.
"Saiko... Kenshinki..."
"Yes" The voice sounded happy "That was once the Name attached to your body"
"But Saiko is Saiko Pacchuwa-ku" You were getting confused "Not Kenshinki, how could Saiko be Pacchuwa-ku but once be Kenshinki?"
"Ah" The Figure wagged a finger "That is where my Story begins - But, I would like to ask you of a Favor first" The figure walked past you and to the other side of the room "While we wait for Patchwork-" Your spirits lifted "How about we duel?"
"In the Dark?" You looked around confused "Saiko doesn't even think she has her Duel-la disc" You pouted
"I'll fix that for you Dear"
There was a sudden gleam of light, and your arm weighed down. You staggered a little as your Duel Disc formed on your arm and lit up - your deck fitted tightly in the slot. You looked across the room to see another Duel Disc glowing on what looked like a disembodied arm.
"Not that Saiko minds but..." You tilted your head "Why does you want to Duel?"
"There is no particular reason" The silvery voice said calmly "I would just like to spend some time getting to know you, and playing a game with someone is the fastest way to find out"
"Yeah!" You grinned eagerly, your duel disc slid out and the life point score lit up "Okay then!" You beamed "Let's Duel Miss Voice!"
"Sa-Saiko" Syrus whispered in shock
"She's breathing" Alexis looked up, her hand on Saiko's throat "Arana... what happened?"
"You wouldn't believe me" Arana said simply - her arm still holding up the Window. Had she let go, it would fall shut.
Chazz couldn't bring himself to look down at the figure again. Syrus had buried his head in Chumley's shirt while Jaden just stood there in shock, not quite sure what to say.
Everyone had gotten Arana's message - and at that time of the night, they had figured it was an emergency... The Shadow Riders was what each of them had suspected... But none of them expected this.
Saiko was lying, looking rather dead on the floor. Her eyes were open and cold, but she was breathing. When Chazz, Jaden, Syrus and Chumley had arrived - Arana had been holding the window up - just as she was now.
'She was fine half an hour ago...' Chazz thought desperately 'Sh-She was just upset...'
"We need to call Miss Fontaine" Alexis said slowly "We need to get her to a Hospital or something-"
"She can't leave this Room - or Saiko can't come back!" Arana said firmly, making Alexis recoil "Something took her Spirit through this window - and... I don't want to take any Chances of her getting lost" Arana said quietly
Silence floated through the air for a moment. Jaden slowly pondered the question on most of their minds.
"Is this something to do with the Shadow Riders, you think...?" Jaden started confused
"Could be..." Alexis frowned
"Why?" Zane looked over at Alexis and Jaden "Saiko doesn't have a key - What'd be the point?"
Silence broke into the room again. Then, much to everyone's surprise - Chazz's voice spoke.
"...Where's Patchwork Phantom...?" He croaked quietly, looking over at Arana
Arana looked at him perplexed as the others looked at him confused. Zane, who had been silent for the longest time - Raised an eyebrow.
"Patchwork Phantom?"
"How do you...?" Arana started, she suddenly stopped and shook her head "He's in a Cave by the Volcano, I don't know where Exactly..."
Chazz was already halfway to the door. Jaden suddenly spoke up.
"Hey I'm coming with you too Chazz!"
"Stay here Slacker!" Chazz snapped back - turning around, Jaden recoiled at Chazz's bloodshot eyes "I can do it myself..."
"Hey Chazz, You're not the only one who Cares!" Alexis looked up angrily "We're all worried"
Chazz looked at Alexis for a moment, but his look didn't falter. He turned on his heel and briskly left the room.
"I'll be back soon-"
He closed the door with a click. The silenced group stared after him sadly.
In the Corridor, Chazz's mind was blank. Why was he looking for Patchwork...?
"If anything happens to Saiko..."
'He'll kill me' Chazz thought slowly 'He'd kill me if he learned that I had known... But...' Chazz clenched a fist as he broke into a run 'If he's still on the island then Saiko's still okay! He can bring her back-'
Chazz didn't know how he came to this conclusion, but he didn't care. It gave him a sense of hope, that hiding in a Cave was something that could make Saiko go back to normal, even if it was mad at him.
There was so much that he hadn't said. He couldn't have her... go without knowing...
'Let's hope Patchwork isn't in a Bad mood'
"You may go First Saiko dear" The voice said kindly
"Okay..." You felt a little strange, but you drew your five cards "Huh?" You suddenly blinked as the Card's lit up in the darkness "Wait..."
It was not that your cards had just illuminated by themselves that had surprised you. But it was the Cards themselves. You suddenly looked up at where you guessed the figure was.
"Some of these cards aren't Saiko's" You blinked, gazing at a few cards in your hand "Saiko can't-"
"They are your Cards Saiko" The silvery voice murmured smoothly "You just cannot remember them~"
You scanned your hand and looked at your cards. There were two that were unrecognizable. There was a Trap card 'Mad Scientist', with a Picture of a man with wild grey hair bent over a Table with two legs poking out from under a blanket - and another, 'Mutilated Kitten' - a Monster card. The picture showed a Cat with only one visible eye, the other was swollen and crusted over with intense detail. The once cute Kitten was now looking horribly burnt and disfigured.
"Uhm..." You blinked, looking down at your hand and choosing the only familiar name "Okie-doke... Saiko plays Severed Claw" You placed the card in attack mode "But Saiko activates its ability, by switching Severed claw to defense mode, Saiko places one Severed monster in her Deck in her hand" You picked out a Severed Hand and placed it in your hand. You then picked out Patches and Patches and slid it into your Duel Disc.
"With my Face down~" You said looking up "Okay Saiko's Done"
"Very good- Now then..." You peered closely to see the pale hand draw a card.
You didn't know why, but noticed the nails were all even lengthed and shiny. Like a hand in a Nail Polish commercial.
"I play Baby Cherub in Attack mode!" The voice placed a card face up in attack mode.
There was a Gleam of light on the field, you squinted. There was what looked like a Small Chubby baby with curly blonde hair floating in the air. But as you continued to watch, two small pearly white wings unfurled on its back. It smiled happily, it's little black eyes gleaming. It had 800 attack points, and 1000 defense points.
"I now add a Magic card from my Hand" The voice plucked out a card "Cupid's Angel Bow!"
"Cue-ball?" You blinked at Cupid's name, the voice laughed
The Baby Cherub held out its chubby arms, there was a gleam of light and it was holding aloft a bow and arrow. The tip of the arrow was not an arrow head, but a large decorative heart.
"Before I carry on with this Move Saiko-Dear" You looked away from the Angel "I would like you to look at the Mirror beside us"
"Hm?" You turned to your side and blinked "What...?"
You could not see yourself in the large mirror at all, nor where the voice was coming from. But there was something peculiar in the mirror.
Your Severed hand and Baby Cherub were both reflected brightly in the mirror. But what was strange, was that in the mirror a white glow was emitting from both of them, but as you looked to the field - the white glow was no where to be seen.
"That White Aura you can see around your Monster is Special Saiko" You slowly looked back at the Duel Disc opposing you "Not every Duelist could summon a Monster and see this reflection"
"But it's just White Foggy Stuff" You blinked "Saiko doesn't see what's so-"
"Ah" The voice laughed "Of course you don't... This Aura shows that our monsters trust those who summoned them, In your case... This is very special"
You didn't know quite what to say, this voice was saying some rather confusing things. You looked at the Reflections for a moment and then back to your monster. It was the Same Severed Claw you had used hundreds of times before.
"Of course Claw's special" You frowned, looking back up at the figure "Severed Claw is one of Saiko's cards"
"You do not understand Saiko-Dear" The silvery laugh drifted along the air like music "You don't know the Story behind that Card, behind all of your cards... Each of them do not trust anyone... Yet they Trust you so"
"Story...?"
"Each Duel Monster card has a Story behind it Saiko" The voice said lightly "Every Monster, Magic and Trap card"
"What's Severed Claw's Story?" You asked curiously
"I cannot tell you..." The voice paused "Just yet - But now, I'm going to use my Cherub's new Bow" A Pale hand emerged from the darkness into the Duel Disc's light "By using this Bow, Baby Cherub can move your Claw into attack mode"
"Huh?" Severed Claw reared up into attack mode, You blinked "But Claw-law has more attack points then Wing-a-ling Baby"
The Voice didn't utter a word. Baby Cherub strung back the bow and shot an arrow at your Severed Claw. The Arrow ricocheted off of Severed Claw's scales and hit Baby Cherub square in the chest - shattering the baby into pieces. You could see the Voice's score go down to 3800.
"Saiko told you..." You began
"When Baby Cherub is destroyed, its effect activates" The hand belonging to voice plucked out a card in its hand "When Baby Cherub is sent to the Graveyard, I can summon a Level Five or above monster directly to the Field from my Hand without having to pay a Tribute-"
The hand hovered over a card and plucked it out. You watched in surprise as the Hand delicately placed it onto the Duel Disc.
"I play Mysterious Angel in Attack"
The air was suddenly thick with white Feathers. You squinted through the drifting mess at the New Monster. As the Feathers floated away, The Blonde haired, white robed draped angel appeared crouched on the ground, pure white Wings wrapped around him. You didn't see what was so Mysterious about this Angel.
"Confused about his Name?"
You looked up as the Voice laughed. You nodded slowly, wondering how it knew what you were thinking.
"Mysterious Angel has an ability" The voice explained simply "He allows me to name a monster, and if it is in your deck - you are forced to play it on the field"
"Huh...?" You gaped "Why would voice want Saiko to do that?"
"I am duelling you for a reason my Dear" The voice laughed a little "Now - the card I am naming is..."
Without warning, your deck began to shine. You stared down at it in shock as the figure pointed its arm towards you.
"The Scientist's Son"
The first thought that went through your mind was that something had exploded. Feathers were flying everywhere as Mysterious Angel stood with arms stretched out wide, but a new figure stood on your field. You squinted confused as two emerald green eyes turned around and looked at you in amazement.
"Who...?" Your heart was beating in your throat "Is... you...?"
As the feathers began to fall to the ground, you could see the Figure clearer. It was a Boy, he looked a little older then you were. His green eyes clashed with his sharp orange hair and pale white skin.
"Saiko dear..." The voice echoed in the background as you and the boy locked eyes "May I introduce you to your Soul mate"
'She hates me...'
Rain was shimmering down on the outside of the cave, a cool breeze washing inside as the droplets echoed throughout the area.
Patchwork bent its head low and closed their eyes, clawed hand clamped tightly over its mask. Tears were still fresh on its mangled face, blood was dripping from the seams from the strain on its face.
It was a wreck, a complete and utter mess.
'I never wanted to tell her like that...' Patchwork breathed heavily 'I never wanted to tell her at all... Why did it have to be like this...?'
His clawed hand dug into the mask, nails digging into the plaster. His shoulders shook as he began to sob again, harder this time.
Outside in the rain, Chazz slipped inside the cave. He was completely soaked from head to toe, water dripping from his black spiked hair onto the damp ground beneath him.
Patchwork was in this cave. He was sure of it. Ojama Yellow peered over his shoulder, looking frightened.
"I dunno about this Boss..." Yellow shivered, clinging to his Jacket collar "I gotta real, real bad feeling-"
"I don't want to be here either, but Saiko's looked particularly dead back there so..." Chazz's voice trailed off, he shook his head "We have to find Patchwork, if anyone can do anything..."
Chazz stopped talking again and froze, staring as Patchwork raised his head. For a moment the two stared at each other in shocked surprise.
"What are you doing here...?" Patchwork asked slowly, the leathery wing unfurling in surprise
"Uh..."
Chazz could feel the words disappearing down his throat, he swallowed quickly and tried to avert his gaze.
"It's about Saiko..." Chazz began slowly, not quite sure how he was going to say it "She's..."
"I know she's mad at me, you didn't have to come here and remind me" Patchwork whispered venomously
"I didn't come here to say that!" Chazz snapped "Somethings happened... Something... She lost her... She's out cold!" Chazz finished dully, Patchwork's eyes widened in surprise "She's not moving, Arana thinks that something stole her soul out the window-"
Chazz had to stop talking, he was realising how stupid it all sounded and tried to rephrase his wording. But Patchwork had already stood up.
"Something's taken her?" Patchwork repeated surprised "What?"
His distorted voice echoed slightly throughout the cave as Chazz flinched a little. Chazz tried to remain calm, not knowing quite what to expect from the Duel Monster.
"I don't know alright? All I know is that if anyone knows how to get her back... you do"
Patchwork paused as Chazz stood his ground. An evil grin grew on the Phantom's face, causing Chazz to shiver.
"You've got some nerve Chazz - Coming in here after I made you promise to take care of her..." The sharp teeth were starting to surpass Patchwork's lips "To come and tell me Bad news...?"
"Uhhhh..." Chazz felt his throat seize up as Patchwork's forked tongue began to escape a gap in his grin "We-Well I just-"
"Hey! Boss was just trying to help out a Friend!"
Chazz blinked as Ojama Yellow shot in front of him. Patchwork continued to grin nastily as the small Ojama held his arms out wide, just enough to shield Chazz's face.
"Your Boss made a promise, what's stopping me from fufilling my part of that Promise right now?" Patchwork teased, kneeling down a little to be face to face with the Mutant
"W-Well... There's me!" Ojama squeaked, trying to sound tough"Besides! He's only asking because he doesn't know what to do! That's no reason to be mad at him!"
Chazz's throat was dry, unsure of what to say or think. This yellow pipsqueak, who he had been badmouthing since he had found him at North Academy was risking himself for Chazz...?
"You..." Chazz managed to get out, still shocked
Ojama Yellow and Patchwork Phantom continued to stare at each other. Suddenly, without warning, Patchwork burst out laughing. Chazz and the Ojama both stared in silence as the Phantom doubled over, clutching his sides as he continued to laugh like a maniac.
"You've both got Guts..." Patchwork smiled, looking up at the Shell shocked duo "I was only joking - I couldn't hurt you, even if I wanted to - Saiko would be furious with me" Patchwork smiled "But..." He examined the two surprised faces "Your bond is a lot like hers and Mine... and just thinking about it lets me know - She's not mad anymore"
Patchwork looked up at the cave roof. A glimmer of moonlight was sparkling down through his dim form. Chazz and Ojama Yellow both paused as Patchwork turned back to them.
"I suppose I should go look in on her" Patchwork grinned "Sulking never does anything anyway - I shouldn't have left her in a bad mood in the first place-"
"Where is she?" Chazz blurted out as Patchwork cracked his knuckles "Do you even know?"
"Chazz, Chazz, Chazz" Patchwork stretched out his arms, Chazz blinked "What kind of Fiend would I be if I didn't know where the treasure of my life is?"
Chazz's mouth hung open in a baffled look as Patchwork's image suddenly disappeared in a flash of light. As he stared at the spot Patchwork had been standing - Ojama gave an awkward laugh.
"Wow Boss - I think we just had a team moment~"
"Shut up" Chazz said dazed
'.....'
"Who is you...?"
'I.....'
The dull thump of your heartbeat echoed in your ears. The two bright green eyes bore into yours, swimming with confusion.
"I am sorry to cut your reunion so short but I must continue my turn" You looked away from the boy on your field to where the voice came from "Now - once Mysterious Angel uses its ability - It cannot attack that monster... But I do believe that you have one other Monster on the field" Your eyes flickered to your Severed claw "Mysterious Angel! Attack Severed Claw!"
Severed Claw only had 1000 attack points, Mysterious Angel's total was 1700. A small yelp escaped as Severed Claw burst into shards, your life points going down to 3300.
"With that, I place one card face down" A card shimmered into view "And I end my turn"
Unaware of what you were doing, you automatically drew a card and glanced down at it briefly. You took a doubletake and realised that you had drawn Patchwork Phantom.
"Patchy..." You looked down at the card sadly "Where are you Patchy...?"
"Saiko!"
It was Patchwork's voice!
"Huh?" You blinked, you suddenly snapped the card to your face "Patchy?"
The card wasn't moving, Patchwork's picture remained motionless. The voice was starting to hum as you looked around for the source of the Phantom.
"Saiko! Here!"
You looked up from the card and suddenly felt your eyes widen. The Scientist's son was beaming at you.
"Saiko!" The boy smiled "It's me! Patchwork!"
"Patchy...?" You stepped backwards "Patchy Phantom doesn't look like you! You're some weird card the voice lady put in my deck" You pointed across the field
"No - It's me!" Patchwork grinned "I know it's me! I knew I had to find you, and here I am - So I know it's me!"
"That makes no sensible..." You tilted your head "You can't..."
A huge surge of light suddenly shone through the room. You winced as the voice laughed, almost triumphantly. As you opened your eyes, you could see the mirror in full light.
It was a mirrored image of the room. You could see the red and white carpet and cream walls with the patterened edges. There was a Grand Piano in the corner and a rocking chair next to a large bookcase in the other. You could see out a four-poster bed and dresser, all neatly laid out and tidy.
Your mind seemed to explode. It was as if you were watching a movie in your head. A little girl with short pink hair was listening to a lady with long pink hair and blue eyes play the Piano. A tall man with pale skin was tucking the girl into bed and picking out a story to read. The girl and the adults were getting into a car-
You suddenly fell to the ground. You could hear Patchwork give a shout as your put your hands to your head.
"Saiko! Saiko are you okay-?"
"Patchy..." You muttered, eyes glistening "Saiko's Guardian Angel..."
Patchwork's breath halted. You could hear him double-taking.
"Guardian...?"
"Saiko remembers..." You could feel your heart beating rapidly, a balloon was swelling inside you "Saiko remembers! This is Saiko's room!" You cried happily, jumping to your feet, staring at the orange haired boy "This is Saiko's room!"
"You remember... Can you remember Saiko-Dear...?"
You paused. The voice... you could remember the voice...
You looked across the field at a white hooded shape. The long flowing robes seemed to be taught across their back.
"Saiko knows you..." You started slowly "Silvery voice..."
A hand emerged from the robe and stuck out in front of the person. It began to play on the air as if it were playing on a piano.
"Tale as old as time..."
The voice was singing - like music without a tune. Words seemed to place themselves in your mouth.
"Song as old as Rhyme...?"
The voice giggled lightly. It raised its hand up to its hood and gently held the folds.
"You do remember~"
They pushed the hood back. A gasp escaped your lungs.
The long pink hair escaped the white cloak, the blue eyes opening as if for the first time. You stepped forwards, eyes quivering.
"Mom..."
