Edward wasn't happy, not at all.
He had gone to sleep thinking about Mindy and his time with her. And now he was sitting in the living room with her bawling her eyes out to the girls and Al, and the subject made him want to punch something.
"I want to see Envy," she wailed, "Why can't I see Envy?"
"He's a freaking Homunculus," Ed exclaimed exasperated, "One of the bad guys!"
Kiki and Winry glared at him and he rolled his eyes. One girl cries, and suddenly he's the bad guy.
"We don't even know where he is," Kiki said, "How would we get to him?"
"I don't know!" she cried.
"Well, if we find him, he can stay," Winry nodded.
"What?" Ed exclaimed, almost jumping up from his seat, "And then kill us all in our sleep?!"
His comment made Mindy cry even more, and consequently, the girls sent him the dirtiest look.
"Listen, it's my house, so I can invite who I want," Winry said darkly.
Ed fell back against the chair, rubbing his temples. How did this happen? What made her just suddenly want that stupid Homunculus' company?
"Wait..." Kiki stroked her chin, deep in thought, "Hm..."
"What?" Mindy sniffled, wiping her tears away and looking up at Kiki.
"I may have an idea," she smirked, "But I'm going to need a pen, paper, and Kuro."
Winry and Al hurried to find all three things and came back, handing it all to Kiki. Kuro jumped down and ran to Mindy, curling up in her lap from where she sat on the floor.
Kiki kneeled down in front of Mindy, setting the paper on the floor and holding out the pen as she smiled kindly, "Here you are. You can write a letter to Envy, and we'll have Kuro send it. That way, he'll know that you miss him and he will come."
Mindy sniffled again and thanked Kiki, taking the pen and putting it to the paper. Ed watched irritated as she scribbled out a letter to one of the most annoying Sins he knew.
Kiki took the letter once Mindy finished, and stuck it in an envelope. She took an extra sheet of paper Winry had grabbed and scribbled something down on it before slipping it in and sealing the envelope. She turned to Kuro and smiled.
"Hey there," she kneeled down and held out the letter, "Could you do Mindy a favor and deliver this to Envy? It would make her very happy."
Kuro looked at the paper and then up at Mindy. She nodded to him, wiping the tears from her eyes. She looked kind of cute, in that sweet childish way, but Ed wouldn't admit that out loud.
Kuro let out a sigh and took the envelope. Ed noticed how he looked like he really didn't want to invite Envy, but would do anything to stop Mindy from crying.
He thought to himself, I know how ya feel.
Kuro looked over at him as if hearing it, and Ed was surprised for a few moments before remembering a voice from long ago that had absentmindedly stated, "We found out he has mind powers, too."
That's why I left you here, he thought at Kuro, You're a constant reminder of Her.
Kuro didn't respond. He just stared at Ed for a few seconds, his thoughts to himself, before patting Mindy comfortingly and disappearing to go give Envy the letter.
He arrived back within five minutes. Mindy had calmed down by then, and Ed watched her silently, wondering what she and Kiki wrote down in the letter.
Envy sat on the edge of the couch, even though the perfectly comfortable cushions were unoccupied, and looked down at the child on the floor with a bored expression.
Wrath was playing with a mouseor rather, torturing a mouse, while he waited for Sloth's return. He laughed as it squeaked loudly, squirming around in his grasp. He let out a surprised gasp and let go of it when a purple animal suddenly appeared in the room.
"Isn't that the thing that followed us around," he began, addressing Envy, "You know, after Lust killed that freaky girl?"
Envy looked down at Kuro and the envelope in his hand. 'Envy' was scribbled on the front. Kuro appeared on the couch and handed him the letter, glancing down at Wrath before disappearing.
"A letter?" Wrath jumped up, "What's it say?"
"None of your business," Envy said nonchalantly as he opened it up and pulled out the letter. His eyes scanned it as Wrath jumped up and down, begging to be read to.
Dear Envy,
I miss you a lot. (Mendacity misses you too, but she's too embarrassed to write it herself.) I haven't seen you in a long time and a lot has happened to us. I can't remember some things because Edward told me to forget, and it makes me sad every time he does that. Mendacity told me who I am (a fraction of her soul), so she's combining my bit of a soul with hers, so we can be one again. But it really hurts, and I don't want to be alone right now. Kiki doesn't approve, but she promised not to say anything about it, and I can't go to anyone else. Edward won't help me if I tell him. It's okay, I can handle it, but I really want to see you again. I think it would make me feel better. Kiki's having Kuro send this to you and he's fast, so I hope to see you really really soon. Mindy (and Mendacity)
Envy looked into the envelope to find another sheet of paper with a much smaller message on it, written in a different hand writing that he assumed to be Kiki's, since she's the one that handled the letter.
Envy, I'm sure you know where we are, but just know that you've been invited by the girl that lives here to come and stay. For Mindy's sake, of course. That means that while you're here, you better behave damn well or I'm gonna kick your ass for making things worse for Mindy. Truce? See ya soon.
Envy raised an eyebrow, causing Wrath to further freak. "Why can't I see it?!"
Envy stood up and jumped off the couch, walking toward the door.
"And where would you be going, Envy?"
He looked over his shoulder at Dante as she walked into the room. "Out."
She watched him as he strolled out of the room, letter in hand. She turned to Wrath, who had been pouting furiously. "Wrath, I have a job for you..."
