"Hi guys, I'm Kelly Richards." The four guys smiled warmly and shook my hand. "Have a seat." They sat down, and I started my interrogation. No, I'm not an officer, and they weren't in trouble. But I was going to be asking some in depth questions.
Eventually. But, first things first.
"So, guys, tell me. What's it like living the life of a rock star?"
Okay, lame question. But it's one of the standard questions asked before you get to the awkward ones. It makes the person being interviewed more relaxed and ready to answer. Or, in this case, people.
I still couldn't believe I had landed the job of interviewing the guys from Fall Out Boy. How cool was that? They had been my favorite band forever. I had worked hard since becoming an intern for the music magazine R&R (Rock and Review- hey I didn't make up the name), and I was gunning for the prime position of editor. I deserved the perks of being one of the top writers for the magazine. And looking around at the four guys sitting in front of me, this was definitely a perk.
"Well, I wouldn't really say that we're stars..." Patrick was answering my question. "I mean, we're just four average guys, having a little fun while we wait to grow up." I laughed a little. Pete looked at me and grinned before saying, "Yeah, interviews like this one are just one of the better parts of the job." I smiled, thinking to myself, Pete is gorgeous. And very very far from being average. Then I chastised myself. Those kind of thoughts should be the last thing on my mind. Especially considering what happened with Brent. I forced myself to stop dwelling on it and turned to my next question.
"Do you enjoy being on tour? Or do you miss home?" Obvious question, but like I said, it puts them at ease.
"Its kind of a love/hate relationship," Joe answered this time. "While we love doing shows and our fans are amazing we cant help but miss home and our families a lot."
We went on like this for awhile, me taking notes. We were laughing and joking around, like old friends. They took the hard questions well. "Do you guys have girlfriends?" "Is it hard to keep a relationship?" "What about all the rumors that you're gay?" They answered them tactfully and politely. Much better than some people I had interviewed. *cough* Paris Hilton.
Too soon, the interview ended. "Well thank you very much for your time guys." I said. There was a chorus of "No problem"s and "Your welcome"s. As they stood up to leave I casually asked, "So, are you going to MTVs big charity benefit tonight?" I was desperately in need of a ticket. None of the other interviewers had managed to get one, and the person who did would score major points with R&R's head honcho, Maria Orthello. And somehow I knew that these guys could be a ticket to another step on my ladder to success.
The guys looked at me and smirked. They saw right through my question. Which is exactly what I had intended. Finally Pete answered.
"Yeeees were going. Are you?" Sneaky little bastard. He knew full well that no reporters were invited unless by direct invitation. I said as much. Leaving out the sneaky bastard part of course.
"And so I would really like, if its no trouble of course, if you could maybe take me with you?" I looked at them hopefully, and with bated breath. They conferred with each other for a bit, then Patrick and looked at me and said--
oooh cliffhanger. not really. you know what he says....now...MESSAGE!
