"Let's go Jane! It's show time!" Jon hollered up the stairs. I laughed to myself and joined them in the living room for the mandatory speech given by Matt. It was a tradition of ours to get us pumped and ready to rock everyone's faces off. Usually they were stupid and pointless, but tonight was serious.
"Alright kiddos, we've got a big one tonight." Matt began, pacing in front of us. I rested my head back on the couch and sighed. Bob sniggered and nudged me. "This is serious guys pay attention!" Matt said sternly. "Whoa, what's gotten up your ass?" Jon said causing Bob and I to break out into hysteric giggles. Matt gave us a stern glare, shutting us up instantly.
"Okay, now that I have your undivided attention, let's get down to business. There's going to be scouts out tonight." He began again, this time no one cracked a joke. Blank stares was all he was receiving. "Okay, let's go!" He said cheerfully, skipping into the kitchen. The three of us looked at each other, not knowing what to do or say. Finally, Jon spoke. "Is it just me---or does this seem really sudden?" He asked of the both of us.
In truth, it did seem a bit sudden. The band had only started a mere 5 months ago. We had gotten pretty popular rather quickly. But this? Were we really ready to sign to a label and get our music out there? I definitely had my doubts. Matt seemed A OK with it. "It does doesn't it?" Bob asked, frowning a little. "Come on guys!" Matt yelled. There was a collective sigh as we made out way out to the van.
"You guys ready?" I asked, not sounding so sure myself. They all nodded, grabbing their respective instruments. I strapped my guitar around me and followed them out onto the stage. There was a surprising amount of people. We were used to a hundred or so, but this place was packed. A few hundred easy. My nerves went to a whole new level. I could hear my heartbeat in my ears as Matt started talking to the crowd.
He was so charismatic. I was always blown away by him. The way he can make the best out of everything and always keep his cool, even if things are complete shit. He was greatly respected by the guys and me.
We tore into Teenage Graffiti. Everything was going great, I even began to lose my nervousness. I focused on the music coming through the speakers. It filled me with an indescribable feeling. I was completely lost in it. I was actually sad when we finished. "See ya guys next time. Buy us a drink and we'll sleep with you." Matt said as a few girls giggled. Bob hopped out from behind the drum set and took the microphone. "Anyone wanna sleep with me tonight?" He asked. A few girls raised their hands, bringing a huge grin to his face.
I was used to his behavior by now. But it still hurt when all I really wanted was to be with him. Yes, I'm in love with my band mate and best friend. Eww, take that back. I like him. I hate the word love. We have a long history. Anyways, he traipsed off the stage and rested his arms around two girls, walking out of the bar and to a hotel no doubt. I sighed, placing my guitar back in its place.

"Hey Janey." Jon smiled, placing his bass in its case. "Hey Jon." I smiled weakly, leaning against the wall. He frowned and leaned next to me. "You should tell him and stop hurting yourself." He said gently. I laughed. "Are you mad? I'll lose my best friend. And besides, I want him to have his fun." I said quietly. He sighed and leaned his head on my shoulder. "I love you Janey, but you're being stupid." He said simply, walking over to Matt who was having a deep conversation with two guys at the bar. I sighed and followed suit, craving a drink.
