Link and I decide to head to Lon Lon Ranch before we go to Kakariko. We want to check up Malon and her father. After more running, and coming to the conclusion that we would spend a lot of time running, we reach the ranch.
As we walk into the ranch we hear the sound of horses. Link races ahead of me to see them.
I smile as my friend suddenly stops and stares. He has found himself nose to nose with a large horse. I'm not sure who's more surprised; Link with bumping into something so much bigger than him, or the horse, which suddenly has this strange kid at the end of his nose. The horse looks at Link and after a moment it gallops off.
Link looks back at me. "Come on! I think Malon's in the middle there."
We enter the corral and we see Malon standing by two young horses. One is reddish in color. It has a black mane and tail tipped in white. The animal also has white socks. Next to that one stands a slightly larger light brown horse. It has several large white spots blended into with the brown coat. It has a darker brown mane and tail and white socks. Both horses have thins white blazes reaching from their ears to their noses.
We walk up to the girl and we hear that she's singing again.
"Hi Malon." Link said.
"Oh, it's the fairy kids again! I heard that you found my dad! How did you like my castle? Did you see the Princess?" Malon giggles. "Dad came home in a hurry after you found him.
"Oh yeah, I have to introduce you to my friends, fairy kids. They're these horses. The brown one's Valentine and the red one's Epona. Aren't they cute?"
Suddenly the red horse runs off. Valentine, however, walked right up to me and starts sniffing. I pull out the apple I have in my tunic, which the horse immediately begins to eat.
"Oh, Valentine likes you!" She looks at Link. "But it seems Epona is afraid of you, fairy boy."
Link looks a little confused about why anything would be scared of him but asks Malon what he should do.
"My mother composed this song. Isn't it nice? Let's sing together." Link looks even more confused now but seeing as he's been asked weirder things, takes out his ocarina to join Malon.
"Oh, cute ocarina! Are you going to play this song with that ocarina?" Malon asks. She then gives Link a tune to mimic. Link copies it perfectly.
Epona comes running up to Link and starts pushing him with her nose.
"Oh Epona! She's grown fond of you, fairy boy."
I laugh as Link tries in vain to move the horse off of him.
"Hey Malon, where's your dad?" Link asks as Epona finally stops pushing him.
"Oh he's in the house. He should have something to give you."
"Come on Venks, let's go." Link said as he runs off towards Malon's house.
"I'll be there in a second. I want to spend some more time with Valentine." I said as I pet the horse.
"Okay. Catch up when you're done." Link waves good-bye to Malon and I.
"So how did you meet Link?" The redhead asks me.
I stop stroking Valentine's neck and look at Malon. "It's a long story but basically I was lost and he found me." Valentine nudges me again and I resume petting him.
"Oh, well it looks like you two will always be really close then." She looks at Valentine. "Do you want to hear Valentine's Song, fairy girl? He really likes it."
"Sure." I take my flute out and she gives me a few notes to play. I notice that it's Epona's song backwards. Valentine looks at me closely then starts nibbling on my tunic.
Malon laughs. "Hey, you better go catch up with fairy boy."
"Yeah I should. See you later Malon!" I said as I take off in the direction Link went.
I hear her call out "Come back anytime!"
I find Link in a room with a lot of cuccos in it. Link is talking to Talon, so he hasn't noticed me yet.
"You've got the talent to be one of the world's best cowboys! How'd you like to marry Malon?"
I just look at Link waiting for him to answer but I have this weird feeling in my stomach, like it is full of butterflies. I realize I'm nervous about what my friend's answer will be.
Link shakes his head no. "I only just met her."
I relax and lean against the wall.
Talon laughs. "I was just kidding! Just kidding!" I start plotting ways of hurting Talon for freaking me out for nothing. "I think you're a little young for that aren't you?" He starts laughing again. He hands Link two bottles of Lon Lon Milk.
Link turns around and sees me. He smiles as he walks over, handing me one of the bottles. "You ready to leave?"
"Sure. Are we off to Kakariko now?"
"Yep. Hey isn't that where Sheik said he lives?"
"Yeah it is! Let's go see him!"
Duo-Milk. It does the body good. Now click the button.
Kakariko Village is just like it was when I left it almost five years ago. Link and I walk into the village and try to figure out where Sheik might be. We don't have a clue so we explore. I notice people are giving Link and I strange looks. Link notices, too.
"I think it's because of how we're dressed Venks. And the fact you have two kids walking around with weapons." Link smiles at me.
I laugh and we continue to look for our friend. Link keeps getting distracted though. He first has to help a lady round up her cuccos. I of course, am dragged into helping. We each get a bottle for helping her. We then meet this cursed family and Link and I, being who we are, agree to help them out by killing the Golden Skulltulas. The two of us then go see if Sheik's in the graveyard behind Kakariko Village. He isn't, but Link found a new shield at least.
"Hey Link look!" Navi yells at him. "Isn't that the crest of the Royal Family?" Navi's right. On the ground in front of a large tombstone was the Triforce symbol. "Maybe you should play Zeldas Lullaby."
Link takes out his ocarina and I take out my flute. We both play the song that Impa taught us. Suddenly the sky grows dark and it starts pouring down rain. Lightning flashes several times and the next thing Link and I know, the tombstone in front of us explodes, knocking us to the ground.
"What kind of messed up place is this?!?!" My fairy started yelling. "First flying pineapples, then it was a deranged guy trying to take over the world, now killer exploding gravestones!"
Link and I ignore her. "You alright Venks?" Link asks, as he looks me over for any injuries.
"I'm fine. How about you?"
"I'm okay too." Link smiles reassuringly.
"Good. Now let's go look at what's left of that tombstone."
The two of us go inspect where the tombstone had been, followed by Navi and a still ranting Aiyamei. A hole is now visible where the gravestone had been. Link looks over at me and smiles then jumps down the hole.
"You've got to be kidding me." I said. I sigh then follow Link.
"It's really cold down here." Navi said, and she darts into Link's hat to stay warm. Aiyamei copies her and takes refuge in my hat.
Link and I walk to the door at the other end of the room, sniping a few kesse along the way. In the next room we find ourselves facing new enemies we'd never seen. They don't move at all but they still make Link and I uneasy. They also made this odd deep, almost humming, noise. It was really creepy to hear. We decide to stay as far from the things as we can. As we reach the halfway point in the room, we hear this deafening scream from behind us. Suddenly I can't move.
"Link!" I yell at my friend, worried about him.
"I can't move." As soon as he said that though, both Link and I stumble forward and land on the ground. It looks like both of us had been trying to move against the paralysis. THEN our fairies come out and warn us of danger.
"Watch out!" They said together.
If I wasn't so busy making sure that Link was okay, I would have tried to kill the two of them.
"What are those things?" Link asks as he stands up.
"They're Re-dead. They can paralyze you when they look at you." Navi explains.
"You'll get seriously hurt if they grab hold of you. So watch out, they bite." That's Aiyamei.
Link and I sigh at the same time. We look at each other and start laughing, totally forgetting that only a few feet from us stands a Re-dead. When we calm down we continue on to another chamber.
In here is a large stone tablet with writing engraved in it. It read like this:
Duo-Click the button or I'll send a Re-dead after you!
A newborn's life will fade.
From sun to moon, moon to sun
Give peaceful rest to the living dead.
Navi points out a music staff on the tablet as well. Link and I mimic the notes written. We've just learned the Sun's Song.

Venks-Creey. Okay moving on. Clicky!
"Okay that's just a weird poem. Hey let's get out of here before anything else happens." I said to Link, who agrees with me. As we come back to the room with the Re-deads, we face the problem of getting by the life-sucking zombies again.
"Hey what do you think the poem meant about 'bring them calm with the Sun's Song?' Do you think if we play the Sun's Song it might have some effect on the Re-dead?" Link asks me.
"It's worth a try." We take out our instruments again and play the recently learned song. When we finish the Re-dead are the ones paralyzed. We run past them and then out of the grave.
Now that we're above ground and safe, I tackle Link to the ground in a hug. "You are a genius Linky Boy!"
"Well now, to hear Link called a genius and to see the two of you in such a compromising position, this isn't what I was expecting." This came from fence high above us on a rock ledge.
Link answers, since he can see the voices owner, all I can see was Link's tunic at the moment.
"Sheik! What are you doing here?" Link said as he releases me from the hug.
"And what do you mean compromising position!?" I demand the Sheikah.
He just laughs and hops down from the fence. Sheik's wearing a cloak because of how cold it is here, seeing as were at a higher elevation. He ignores my question and answers Link. "I'm here because my Aunt told me to try and keep the Poes at bay when I'm in Kakariko. What are the two of you doing here?"
"Princess Zelda sent us out to find the remaining Spiritual Stones. We already have one." Link said.
"Let me guess, the Spiritual Stone of the Forest."
"Yep. Now we're after the Spiritual Stone of Fire."
"Seriously Sheik, what did you mean by compromising position?" I yell at him. I can tell he's smiling evilly by the way his eyes are glittering in the dark... wait a second. When did it get dark out?!
Link and I look at each other and suddenly it clicked. "The Sun's Song!" We both say.
"I hate it when the two of you do that." Sheik mutters.
I laugh at him. "Serves you right since you won't tell me anything!"
"You two are too young to know what I mean. In a couple of years you'll understand. Well, you'll understand. Link may still be too innocent to get it."
"What?" Link asks, he's only heard the last part of the conversation since he was asking Navi what a Poe was.
"Oh nothing." Sheik said as he starts to head out of the graveyard. "I'm just coming with the two of you."
"What?!" Aiyamei yells.
"Venks your fairy has hearing problems." Sheik said to me. He then looks to my fairy. "I said: I. Am. Coming. With. You." He said all of this rather slowly and loud, mocking Aiyamei. See our friend Sheik here, is a very sarcastic guy. Which is okay with Link and myself, mainly because I can be just as sarcastic back and Link normally doesn't notice it.
My fairy, however, isn't used to the sarcasm. Aiyamei seems to puff up and then she flits to the ground. As she gets up to eye level again she throws a small rock at Sheik's head. The rock hits him hard on the bridge of his nose. My fairy laughs evilly as she retreats into my hat.
"Venks you have one messed up fairy. That actually stings." Sheik said as he gently rubs his nose.
"You did kind of ask for it." Navi said.
"Great, the fairies are rallying against me."
Link and I laugh.
"Come on guys let's get going." Link said as he starts running. "We have to save Hyrule!"
"Look out Gorons here we come!" I yell as I race to catch up with Link. The two of us laugh when we hear Sheik.
"Goddesses these two have way too much energy."
Duo-Tackling Link to the ground, huh? I bet you were happy. Venks- I hate you Duo. Duo- I know. Click the button right here>
We get to the beginning of Death Mountain Trail only to be stopped by a knight. He tells us that unless we have royal permission, we can't get through. So Link shows him the letter.
The man reads it aloud, "This is Link and Venks. They are under my orders to save Hyrule." The man starts laughing and said this is surely the Princess handwriting. He is about to let us pass when he notices Sheik.
"Hold on. The letter only mentions two people. So who are you?"
Sheik sighs then looks the man straight in the eyes. The knight takes a step back in surprise, like he's discussed and yet afraid Sheik. He then opens the gate for us. He's saying something to Link but I'm focused on Sheik.
"Sheik?" I call his name softly. When he looks at me I notice he's different than normal. His face is emotionless and he's tense, like he's ready to fight. His eyes are really different though. They seem to look right through you and they're cold. They don't have the fire that's always there when he's laughing and hanging out with Link and I. Sheik looks like a hardened warrior.
A moment later his body relaxes and his eyes soften. He's back to being the Sheik I know. He looks at me sheepishly. "Sorry. I must have zoned out for a moment."
I raise an eyebrow. "Right. Now tell me, what that really was about Sheik?"
"I'll tell you when we leave the village." He said. I nod, understanding that he doesn't want the guard to hear him explain.
Speaking of the knight, he's finally stopped talking to Link. Link waves good-bye to the guy and starts walking up the trail. Sheik and I follow a little farther behind. Though it doesn't escape either Sheik or my notice that the knight makes sure there is a good distance between him and Sheik.
A little ways up the trail Link stops and turns to look at us.
"Sheik what happened back there?" Looks like Link also noticed the knights odd reaction towards our friend. "Why would anyone treat you like they're scared of you?"
Sheik refused to look at either of us.
"Come on Sheik, you know we won't judge you. You're our best friend." I tell him.
Sheik sighs. "Okay."
Duo- I wonder what Sheik is gonna say...
