The phone sent a shill blare throughout the house as you sat eating cakes. Shigure clambered up like a little kid, fumbling with the receiver, and answered it. "Hello? Oh 'Tori how nice of you to call! Huh? Our visitor? Oh, you mean _________?" He stole a quick glance in your direction before turning away. His voice became hushed, and everybody at the table strained to hear what he was saying, but to no avail. When Shigure had finally hung up the phone, putting it down on the receiver firmly, he walked back to the table and in a surprisingly serious voice announced his news. "It seems Akito, the head of our family, has fallen ill with a fever, and put off his decision of what to do with you, until later."
What to do with me? It sounds like he owns me. Like Im a dog or something.
"Until then, you must stay with us so we can make sure our secret remains just that."
"But! My house is so clos-"
"Ah ah ah!" Shigure interrupted wavering a finger at you. "You must stay with us until Akito makes a decision. We do have a guestroom available. Now what do you suppose your family is going to say about this?"
There was something you envisioned, a memory held dear to your heart, a bittersweet memory that held both joy and regret. It started in a grassy field, with the sun high in the sky shining down bright beams, and the warm spring breeze swaying the tall grass blades too and fro. There was a seated crowd in the center, their attention facing the temporary wooden stage that held up a waving banner which read 'Class of 2004'. You saw a girl. She had just graduated high school and was smiling holding her diploma, while her almost black hair whipped around her face, lining her twinkling dark brown eyes. There was a boy. He clapped with a bright smile on his face cheering for his biggest sister, as her name was called for a speech. His eyes were a soft brown, holding nothing but wonder, and his black hair was short, barely rustling in the breeze. Then there was a man and a woman. The man had pitch-black hair that slightly covered his eyes, and a gentle smile on his face. He clapped enthusiastically, his hands quivering from his happiness, and his eyes holding the same beautiful twinkle as the girl's. The woman next to him had light brown hair the fell just below her shoulders, and her sharp hazel eyes were grinning at the sight of her graduating daughter. It was your family. The family you would never see, the family that you would never again share moments like these with. You closed your eyes and shook your head vigorously trying to get the pictures out of your brain, trying to shake off the past. There was a long silence, until you finally answered, replying hoarsely in a solemn whisper, "They wont mind."
You knew they could tell you were hiding something, that there was something you didnt tell them. You could you could feel their eyes on you, suffocating you with questions they didnt dare ask. You felt trapped, like you were never going to see the light of day again, unless you told them about it, your past. Your horrifying past.
But no one did ask anything. The remainder of the snack was quiet, even the tension between Yuki and Kyo subsided. You were surprised and relieved, like a great burden had been lifted off your back, that your past would remain just that- yours, only for you to know. Yet, even in this confusion, something still puzzled you. Where were you going to stay?
He did say there was a guest room available. Wonder where it is...
As if on cue, Shigure jumped up and exclaimed "We must make the guest room suitable for ____________. Maybe install a lock? We wouldn't want Kyo sneaking in there at night" He grinned mischievously.
Out of what seemed like nowhere, Kyos hand shot out and bopped Shigure on the top of his head. "AAAHHHHHG!" he shouted, pointing his finger accusingly, "YOU PERV! IF THE LOCK WAS FOR KEEPING ANYONE OUT, ITD BE YOU!" Breathless, Kyo slumped back down in his seat, his teeth still tightly clenched and veins popping out of his head. He muttered under breath something like 'damn that Shigure. Cant believe he thought I...' You watched him shake his head then turned your attention back to Shigure.
"Now, Yuki, will you escort _________ back to her house to gather her things? Tohru, Kyo and I will clean ________ 's new room!" Shigure chanted and waved you away. You started walking through the forest, with Yuki following behind, as the shouts of Kyos protesting could be heard in the background. 'No! Make her clean her own room, you arent getting any help from me!' A door could be heard slamming in the distance.
"Stupid cat." Yuki calmly said beside you, not bothering to open his eyes. The rest of the walk to and from your home was consumed in awkward silence. You didnt own much, so you took all your possessions, which totally only filled three suitcases, Yuki assisting you with two of them. When you had arrived at your new temporary home, you walked to your room. It was small and cozy on the upper floor next to Tohrus room. The walls were white and a full mirror stood to your left. There was a window overlooking the backyard and a single bed sat in the center of the room, on top of it lay a pale blue neatly folded feather down blanket, and a soft pillow. A simple nightstand stood next to the bed and that was the guestroom. After taking in your surroundings, (jumping on the bed, and fluffing the pillow), You finished off your homework and though it was only around 8, you felt so utterly and completely exhausted. You changed in to your pajamas, got ready for bed, and wearily climbed slowly under the covers. As soon as you head hit the pillow, you fell into a deep slumber.
Kyos POV
Guilt hung thickly around you as you lay on the roof looking up at the beautiful spring night sky, it had only recently warmed up, and you had missed lying like this. The stars shone brightly.
Almost like her eyes...Wait, what am I saying?
You stared up into the night for a few more minutes then decided to check on _______. What you had done wrong was unclear but something kept tugging at your conscience, something that you couldnt get off, something that said go to her. Luckily, near _______'s room was a branch that hung just above the window frame. She had left her window open letting the cool air smelling of wood and lilacs drift in. You jumped down and silently landed on the floor just inside the room. It was dark and a lump projected form the bed. She was already asleep. You walked over to her bed, and stared down at _____'s sleeping figure, your shadow looming over her. She looked so peaceful lying there, the moons light seemed to make her slightly-tanned skin illuminate. You reached down and rested your hand lightly on the top of her head. You leaned down so your lips lingered only centimeters from her ear. You opened you mouth slightly, not knowing what to say. You thought for a little while then whispered the first thing that came to your mind. "I take back what I said. About it being better if you forgot. Im-" Footsteps approached the room, and you quickly straitened up and dashed toward the window. With one powerful leap you jumped on the branch, then sprang to the roof again, leaving no trace that anyone had ever been there.
Yukis POV
Tohru only came about 6 months ago and Kyos already let our secret slip again. He truly is an idiot. I should see how our new guest is doing.
You made your way to the guestroom, and knocked quietly on the door, waiting for a reply. After a few seconds, when no one came, you cracked the door open, and peeked inside. _______'s steady breath told you that she was in content sleep. You gazed at her, at this girl who understood you without even knowing who you really were.
She is absolutly amazing.
You brushed aside a stray hair that had blown onto her face. The night was getting chillier and in her sleep ____ shivered. You strode toward the window and shut it, only letting a small thud be heard as it hit the sill, as not to wake her up. You once again turned your attention toward ______ and pulled the blanket up to her chin. You sat down, your legs hanging over the side of the bed, and stroked the back of your hand gently across her cheek, feeling _______'s soft skin. "Good night my princess." You whispered in a low murmur. Without a sound, you bent over, one hand resting on either side of her head for support, and lightly brushed your lips across ______s forehead. "Sleep well."
You stood up once again, and walked toward the door in a silent tiptoe. Stepping into the light of the hall, you looked back once more at _______, before closing the door behind you.
