What sort of profession most appeals to you?

I don't care, so long as I get to be famous and make money and meet pretty girls and go places! Something easy. A writer, maybe. Profession? No profession could satisfy me. Something that lets me apply myself and my intellect. I like hands-on work. When I'm not too busy being an idealist, of course. Something, anything, that is different from whatever it is I'm doing now. Professions aren't important. Where they take you is.

When or where do you feel most comfortable?

Lying drunk in a field. At home, relaxing. Anywhere, relaxing. With people, showing off and being the life of the party. Nowhere. I'm never comfortable. Saving the universe. Taking care of my friends.

What is your idea of a great time?

Don't talk to me. Exploring and learning as much as I can before I get annoyed. Designing fjords. Being locked in someone else's house with only a typewriter and several cups of black coffee as my company. Cricket and tea. That and flying. Physically damaging alcohol! Sex! Parties! Adventure! All at the same time! Just what I always do: relax.

When faced with danger, how do you usually react?

I keep my cool. That's the only way to survive out here, you know. I thwart it as abstractedly as possible with my towel. Panic. Danger? What danger? I can't see anything. I remain calm and face it as well as anyone can expect of me. Laugh about it. I never do anything dangerous. What a pointless existence I lead.

What is your favorite thing in the whole universe?

My towel. Me! Tea! Fjords. Deadlines. I can't decide, neither of them is a great choice. I don't have a favorite thing. I could name some things I'm miserable about, but you wouldn't like them.

What is most important to you?

Fighting for what I believe in. Believing in what I fight for. Being a good and apt person even in the face of all this chaos. Keeping my ego intact and staying larger than life! Nothing really matters. Anyone can see. Nothing really matters to me. Enjoying life. Survival.

Good things people might say about you are:

Adorable, practical, unavoidably likable. Ridiculously good-looking, enormously hoopy, and just plain amazing. Good for a laugh, hoopy, an expert in survival. Who says good things about me? Empathetic, responsible, the only competent one around. Inventive, silly, delightfully charismatic. Wise, resolute, somewhat dangerously ambitious.

Bad things people might say about you are:

Overbearing, melodramatic, totally absorbed in outrageous things. Absurd, unsettling, just a little terrifying. Who says bad things about me? Dull, simplistic, a bit of a moron, actually. Annoying, uninteresting, too busy being a good guy. I've heard all sorts of things. I don't believe a word of it. Completely, utterly, worthless.

What is your greatest asset?

The best ship in the Galaxy. Oh, and my mind-boggling hoopiness. My kind heart. I've heard several suggestions. Don't believe them, either. Well, being able to come out of all this halfway alive must count for something. My brain. Not that anyone cares. My unfaltering devotion to The Good Of The Universe. My ability not to panic.

What is the biggest problem you routinely face in life?

Everyone panics all the time. It gets a frood down. I seem to be constantly in severe danger. Men. People just love me too much. Facing it. My problems are so fantastically enormous that they can't be imagined. The universe can't keep itself out of trouble.

The Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything, to which the Ultimate Question has not yet been discovered, is forty-two. What does this mean to you?

What's the point? Nothing, really. It's rather amusing. I just wish I knew. What I wouldn't give for forty-two drinks... It's a bit anticlimactic, isn't it? It's the Answer. That's all there is to it. Seems simple to me. I don't care, it's the Question that matters.

Some people, most of which are Scrabble enthusiasts, believe the Ultimate Question to be 'What do you get when you multiply six by nine?' This clearly makes just as little sense as the whole universe does, though it has been brought forward that multiplyin

Now that's REALLY anticlimactic. For goodness sake, be careful when you tell people! It's a wonder the universe hasn't blinked out of existence yet! Doesn't mean anything. MIGHT mean something. I'm SURE it means something! I'd better consult some numerologists... I could tell you, but the universe will have ended before I finish. Good riddance. No one writes jokes in base thirteen.

Why?

No, I tried that. Why not? Because it's there. Because I can. Haven't got much of a choice, have I? Someday, perhaps, we will know. That's my problem, too.
