The Last Good One

a poem about how it seems the whole world turns on you- your mother, your father, your god.

Oh god, oh god, oh god,
They're coming for me
With their hoods and black bags;
I believe they are looking for me.
And I am a godless child-
Who shall I pray to for salvation?
Not the stained glass windows, nor the money men of the lord
To think they once loved me!
And I was called heartless, an icy block of bitter regrets
They compare meto ogres, the giantess-
Scaly green with envy for your happiness,
If you have it, you should hide, stash it in a safe
If you wave it around you will surely drown.
Ipray to Athena, Hades, Ares-
Who will save me from the world?
Mother and father, your knives are as cold as your eyes
You once swaddled me in blankets and rocked me to sleep.
But those days are gone
Knees on the stone floor, oh Caesar
They called the Praetorian guard to your chambers and felled you
So witless to believe your protectors
Would stay that way.
Heaven is looking down on me
As I rush from room to room,
Soon, too soon, i will be gone
Swept up in the arms of betrayal.
Oh, heaven is looking down on me
And there is little left to show.
If you bow to any god, it will surely break your back
I stand upright, a pillar among ruins
My loved ones caress my hand
And lead me to certain doom
Oh, Apollo, oh, Hera, did you not hear me-
I was screaming and you were silent.
Where is Tartarus now?

* tartarus is the lowest level of hell in greek mythology
