I hear the spoken news
It shatters in my head
Reverberates down through me
Don't panic; no one's dead.
It's just a bit of knowledge
My mom told me today
A little piece of trivia
That stabs me all the same.
It hits me on the head and heart
This little piece of sky
I knew it would be falling
I told you, didn't I.
The sunlight had to shatter,
The clouds had to push through
It's been happening for some time now,
But go, paint the sky blue.
I think I'll drop my paintbrush
Back into the open jar
Of false happiness and security;
The real things seem so far.
No, today I will not paint it,
My sky that doesn't like being blue
I'll let it chill my insides
While I try to hold on to you.
As My Paintbrush Limply Falls
