Sitting in my field of dreams
I think of how it might have been,
Maybe how it should have been.
If I had never met you,
If I had never agreed to marry you.
When I was told of your dreadful fate,
My life, my world, shattered into a million pieces.
I now walk this earth alone,
Forever in mourning.
But my weeping in internal
I must appear strong.
For the little girl you left behind,
Never to see her daddy’s smile.
Pictures now connect me to you
Besides the stone above where you lie.
I then look around
Seeing nothing but a graveyard.
This is, however, is my field of dreams.
This is where my dreams now lie,
Where my path eventually leads.
War stole you from me
Nothing can bring you back.
I stare at where you lie.
Roses,
Daisies,
Lilies too,
Scattered over your grave.
I stare in awe, a heart in pain,
Thinking of how long I must wait.
Wait to see your smiling face.
