A Broken Heart

Totally broken.

The darkness shadows her heart
And it's left in ruins
She can't keep living
If her heart is not beating
The ruins of her heart
Fallen buildings; fallen dreams
Burning homes; burning pain
Black smoke; billowing sadness
Her world is now gray
No hope, no light
She's been hurt so much
That her eyes cannot see
Her hands tremble in unison
With her bloodied lips
Her tears fall to the beat
The rhythm of betrayal
She walks among the rubble
Searching for a memory
That isn't fake or ruined
I know she'll search eternally
Her memories mere fragments
Of love that never was
He made her promise to try
To find her way on her own
She wonders if her solitude
Is really worth the effort
The silent moments shriek
With the reality of the world
She finds, through her tear filled eyes
A broken shard of glass
Deviously shaped, hooked
She runs a finger down the length
Lifting it to the blood red sky
She cries out a final scream
He looks back to see
He looks back to find her
But alas he is too late
The glass dagger has already cut
And plunged into her body
Not her heart, for it was never there
She falls with a smile
Serenity of finally attaining peace
Her bitterness replaced
With pure sorrow and hate
The memories rush before her
She is content
Her life was full enough
Her heart was hurt enough
The blood pools around her
And his hands push away her hair
Her eyes are filled with malice
Directed to him, even in death.
