I'm holding in my fist
A handful of sand
Still warm, but cooling
Remembering the former glory
It held upon this beach
Closing my eyes
Loosening my grip
It has stayed strong so long
Each coarse grain once clumped together
A strong pebble
An intimidating rock
An immovable boulder
The biggest thing on a glittering beach
Before anyone even knew it's strength
It was here
And the years passed away
The little death dance of time
Corrupting, corrosive, erosive
Time
Destroyer of all
And the rock gave way
Underneath the pressure and the weight
Humiliated to the status of sand
So soft they walk on it
And in the future it will be softer still
As time wears it down
Wears me down
I let this sand slip through my fingers
I let the tears slide from my eyes
And I have become like this pile of sand -
Reduced to nothing
