If children have the ability to ignore all odds and percentages, then maybe we can all learn from them.  When you think about it, what other choice is there but to hope?  We have two options, medically and emotionally:  give up, or fight like hell.  ~Lance Armstrong

You were always the dreamer and I was the dreamless,
you were the talented one I was just your sidekick,
you were brave and strong the one who helped me get along,
you were the rebel and I was the freak.

Do you remember that day we first met in school?
I was four and you were five and yet you were the one that cried,
I told you my name, you told me yours and then you smiled,
From then on it was always the two of us friends for ever...
until the end.

There was that time we went swimming and you almost drowned me,
that time we went horseriding and I fell of the horse,
the time you borrowed my favourite top and spilled chocolate sauce down it
we didn't talk for weeks after that, how stupid of me not to realise life was only short.

As it turns out your end came quicker then mine.
Cancer, Incurable, treatment starting right away you didn't cry when you told me
and you didn't cry when all your beautiful red hair fell out, but I did
And when your mom bought you a wig and you refused to wear it we laughed.

Right from the beginning there were two people in my life that I kept close to my heart.
You my friend and Annemarie I had already lost one and I was very quickly losing the other.
They said you were lucky to make it to christmas but I didn't listen you had always promised to be there for me you weren't going anywhere...
But you did.

As I looked down at you in your coffin I had the strangest thought I remembered all those hundreds of porcelain dolls you'd collected and stored under your bed.
And when I stood up to read your prayer I smiled because it wasn't me reading it was you.
