Calories are currency –
It wasn’t worth the calories,
And want is no longer a waste.
“Little things add up,”
Be careful:
Underneath your skin you cannot breathe.
Calories are currency,
But you know that less is more.
Like all of us, you pay them in and out
The rate is changing,
The warning signs are up.
Calories are currency,
I hear it’s now the case
A happy medium is best,
But no one’s quite ready to test it –
They’d rather be safe,
And carefully count out their calories.
Calories are energy:
We need them
We all need lightning.
But look at your photographs
And you’ll believe
In heart and straight white smile,
They’ll divide you.
Undo and unknit and destroy you,
Nobody longs for more lightning.
Though calories are currency:
Less is more.
Be careful, be careful,
Calories are currency,
And it’s piling up,
Be careful:
You could drown in power,
You could burn.
Calories are currency,
So is it any wonder
That you sit, you learn and fear,
Counting calories,
Your soul kept in
only by bones.
